Psgirl, the grocery game list ALL the sales, as well as coupons that you can use to make it even better.

So if you have a BOGO offer, it's listed, if there's a coupon that can be used with it too, it's listed

It even "rates" the deals as to great (free w/coupon or other savings) to good to "eh"

I always use the great deals to "stock up"

What Red said... Basically you change from going to the store to get what you need to stocking up on what you use during sales. Cereal normally $4.29 I paid $2. Hamburger helper normally $2.49 I paid $.77 for. Purdue skinless/boneless chicken breast $1.99/lb, 80/20 ground beef for $1.49/lb. It only gets better with coupons.

So those that pay for the grocery game, what about if you pretty much use no prepared foods at all and mostly organic? Is it worth it? About as prepared as I get is peanut butter, but I try to buy it at the health food store and grind it on site. Also, I am not currently making my own bread and I use 1 to 1.5 loaves of bread per month.

Psgirl, the key is to buy when the price is right, not when you immediately need it. So, if you are buying organic cereal, for example, when it goes on sale bogo or a really good price, you check the expiration date, calculate how much you would eat during that period & buy that many boxes.

If you are only going for fresh/organic produce, then mostly buy what is in season & on sale. Or if you are really particular about that, then really, your best bet is to grow your own.

PSgirl, In my area they have a whole foods list. Try it for free for 4 weeks and see. It's $10 every two months. I've saved enough in one day that it's a no brainer for me.

Wakeupcall's got it, change from buying as you need things to stocking up when things are on sale. Pay attention to what you buy so you don't fall for any games also. Like something that's normally 2.99 that the store jacks the price to 3.49 then puts in on sale to 2.49. That's not $1 off, it's .50 off...

Those of you in Florida, get 20 percent off the price of gas...

Publix broke out the offer for buying 25 bucks worth of groceries, get a 50$ BP gift card for 40$.

Wife went to Publix last week, spent 228.00, got a weeks worth of food and 200.00 in BP gift cards.

I drive 78 miles a day to work and back so this is saving me 10 bucks a week in gas.

good point.... its hard enough convincing my gorgeous girlfriend that when return an item to a store that you have already bought, you don't have $20.00 more magically. She has come a long way though since we started dating, lol.

i found an easier method.....just go to a super target. They have sales that make the place better than a costco or spending all kinds of time hunting for deals.

Matt,
Target is good for very specific (targeted, if you will) sales. Combining a manufacturer's coupons with a store coupon and double-plus if there are gift card rebates involved. But for everyday shopping, you'll get it up the ass.

For example, today I had to be in Target for something and figured I'd do some quick shopping and save me a trip to the other store. Milk was $3.08/ gallon (pay $2.86 at HEB, the local chain), eggs were $1.70 while HEB is $1.29 and cream cheese was $1.99 while HEB is $1.79.

That said, I was able to score some $1 off Chef Boyardee ravioli coupons (8 of them from the Target.com website) and got 8 free cans.

So, yeah, you can pick and choose great deals, but they're everyday pricing is on the high side.

Now CVS is pretty cool. (Again, you'll pay a convenience price if you don't watch out.) I had a $4 off $20 or more purchase coupon. They had Skippy Peanut butter 3 (16 oz) for $5 and $3 back if you bought $10 or more of the brand group (included Ragu smiley sauce, tea, mayo and a few other things, but I stuck to the peanut butter). So I got 6 peanut butters, then they had M&M (big bags) on sale for $3; got 3 of them because I got a Buy 2 get one free and then two separate $1/bag off. Then I got one Altoids because then I got a $1 Extra Bucks back.

6 16oz Peanut Butters: $10
3 24oz M&Ms $9
1 Altoids $1.49
Subtotal $20.49

Coupons
$4 off $20+ -$4
B2G1 M&M -$3
3 60 cnt off PB -$1.80
3 40 cnt of PB -$1.20
25 cnt off Altoids -$0.25
2 $1 off M&M -$2.00
Subtotal Coupons -$12.25

Net $8.25
Extra Bucks Back 4.00

Gross $4.25
