Woodman - I'm glad you found this thread useful; however, the majority of your post belongs in the Bar, not here. (And just in case you were thinking of re-posting it in the Bar, that list has already been posted there more than once.)

Folks, please be judicious when posting in pinned threads...

Mshivji - the proprietor (Genesis) recently made the Bar and Off-Topic forums accessible to only Gold members and long-time non-Gold members. I am not certain what the exact criteria for non-Gold access are, but your inception date of 25sep08 is almost certainly too recent to qualify.

If you're interested in donating to TickerForum, click here (http://www.tickerforum.org/cgi-ticker/ak....). You'll find a "Donate" button at the bottom of the page. A "Gold" membership gains you access to several additional forums (aside from the Bar and Off Topic, there are several more that don't even appear on your top-level list right now), as well as KD's nightly videos.

Welcome to TickerForum!

They're the 8-period and 34-period Simple Moving Averages; the period depends on the timeframe you're using. Most traders use 5-minute charts. Buy when the 8 rises above the 34 from below and sell when the 8 falls below the 34 from above. Use at your own risk.

I just added "Scalp(ing)" to the main post.
Here's Investopedia's definition, which seems reasonable enough:

Throwover/Throwunder: the brief surpassing of a target, before returning to the predicted or expected range. For example, if the 50-day moving average of /ES is at 920, and /ES creeps up to that level, then keeps going up to 925, but then comes back down and closes below 920, that would be a throwover of the 50 day moving average. Note that the duration is "soft"; /ES might spend several days above the 50 day moving average before being rejected back downward, and that entire period of time would then be considered the throwover. Throwunder is the same thing in the opposite direction - if there is support at 880 and /ES falls to 870 before bouncing back above 880, that would be a "throwunder" of the support at 880.

*If I have grokked correctly, not to be confused with "thrown under" as in "the bus."

As used around TickerForum lately, "probe" means a price spike, up or down, outside of the bid/ask. While some people think these "probes" have some predictive value, and while it is true that they sometimes hit a price that hasn't been seen recently, these are normally backward-looking events; they are usually late prints, corrections, or busted trades. They almost always reflect a price that has been seen earlier in the session, and quite often match the previous session's closing print. Here is an example of a "probe" that occurred on BAC's chart during pre-market yesterday (it matches the previous day's closing price to the penny):

Can we add the term "the bezzle". IMO I know all one has to do is Google it, but it would be nice to add it to the TF glossary.

The "bezzle's" a term that was coined by the American economist John Kenneth Galbraith in a book called "The Great Crash: 1929" which he wrote in the middle of the 1950s. What he recognized was that at any given time there is a certain amount of embezzlement going on in the economy. Now this falsely inflates the sense of the total wealth of the economy at that moment. Because, not only does the embezzler now have substantial resources under his control but the embezzled does not yet know that he or she has lost those resources. And so there's, in effect, a kind of double counting of wealth of both the victim and the victimizer. And the inventory of that duplicity is what Ken called the bezzle.

"Spoos," as in "No. 1 in the pit is pounding the spoos?"

"Paper," as in "Here comes some paper?"

I'll get to these later in the day.

Spoos are the big SPX contracts (not e-minis), named phonetically for the September expiration version (SPU).

Spoo is a full /es contract, worth 5 e-mini's.

Paper is buying/selling that's coming into the pits from elsewhere. (I think)

Hi, I'm a newbie looking for advice & information as to the software & feeds that I am seeing in KD's video material dissecting market information.

Is the content displayed from a Bloomberg terminal or some other information service company?

I want to know how I may best receive real time info & what I will need to process & store the information.

I would appreciate any direction to learning exorcises relating to trading such as placing bids, stops & puts.
I am not sure how MUCH I understand & accept that My ignorance may be nearly complete.
I want to participate in trading Personally & to be in a position to share information & accept information with others with some degree of confidence in My comprehension of the issues.

Many Thanks to all Who help.
