$500-$1000 to take a family of 4 to a game?

Or less than that for DirecTV for the whole season...

if pros can't sell out just 8 games per year, the message is clear, some would say "lack of demand", more precisely prices are too high.

By PAUL NEWBERRY, AP Sports Writer – Thu Aug 26, 3:40 am ET
ATLANTA – NFL owners are eager to increase the regular season from 16 to 18 games.
The players aren't so sure.
During a five-hour meeting at a posh hotel in downtown Atlanta, the push to add two more games to the regular season picked up steam Wednesday — at least among those who sign the checks.
"I think it's a win-win all around," said Bob Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots.
apolis, Michael Marot in Indianapolis and Joseph White in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report.

I haven't been to a live game in 25 years and won't be going any time soon. Ticket prices have gotten too ridiculous and after reading more and more about PSLs for season ticket owners(Particularly the Cowboys), that just turned me off more. Paying thousands, tens of thousands for the right to a seat plus the cost of the tickets? I guess it's great if you've got it like that but the average fan gets screwed over. I believe the priciest of the Cowboys' PSLs was $150,000 plus the cost of the tickets, which I believe were in the $400 range. Financing was available for the PSLs when I was reading about it, so just imagine taking out a mortgage sized loan for the right to a seat at a football game for 30 years.

I've ordered Sunday Ticket for 7, 8 years now but I gritted my teeth some this year. They raised the price a little more than usual but it includes the "Superfan" package. My guess is they didn't sucker as many people as they would like into paying an extra $100 for it last year, so this year they include it but jack the price up more.

I only go to local pro sports games when I get free tix from a friend. There's just no way I'm dropping hundreds of dollars to support these rich roid-heads. I love sports but I prefer watching them on my nice flatscreen. If I go to a couple of Yankees games and a Rangers game each season I'm fine. Beyond that it gets old anyways.

Professional football games are a venue for the well-to-do only. I went to one a couple of years back and I was just floored at the amount of money it cost. It was a good time but not THAT good a time, and it looked to me like the home team mailed it in that day.

I recently read an article in the local paper that said parking at cowboys stadium
averaged about $65.00. WTF! $65.00 or more just to park your vehicle? F that!
I will probably never go to a professional sporting event again.

Best time I've had in recent years at a pro sporting event was a single A baseball game in St. Elsinore (the Storm).

Lots of promotions that day, with fireworks, so a healthy crowd. But field level seats and lots of hustle (not swagger) reminds you what sports should be about.

... if you're no longer playing yourself, that is. (Had to hang em up after too many scopes on my knees).

... or watching your kid play for the top state team from nice elevated bleachers .... as we did yesterday .... just as much fun.

Local blackouts nice!!

TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—The Tampa Bay Buccaneers say their season opener Sunday against the Cleveland Browns will be blacked out locally.

It’s the club’s first regular-season blackout since 1997—the year before the Bucs moved into Raymond James Stadium. Both home exhibition games were blacked out last month.

The team did not say how many tickets remained unsold at 1 p.m. Thursday, 72 hours before kickoff.

I own two season football tickets for the Wisconsin Badgers (ranked #10 or #11) in the country. Our local economy is doing well with unemployment in Madison around 6.5% but nearby Janesville over 14 or 18%.

Face on my tickets say $42/seat but I pay over $80 as I have to buy a Scholarship fee of $200/ticket/year. I got $5 for last game. This week I could get $30 and next week would be free.

I always found the concept of "blacked out" games on local tv strange, but then I was talking to the brother in law about the English premier league (he's from London). From what he was telling me, things are ridiculous over there. #1, they usually don't televise the local team playing (all 3pm matches are not televised), and there's I think only 1 channel which shows 2 or 3 matches a day, and that's it, no selection. I believe you have to pay an extra $40/month he was saying for this package/channel as well, not to mention other restrictions (like no highlight clips on any channels till after 10pm). Insane.

This is done to get people to goto the games, but makes zero sense if the games are sold out. It seems like the current NFL blackout rules are an evolution from the insane rules over in the Premier League. So, just saying, things could be worse.

The company I'm with has a box at every major venue in the DC area. These are premium boxes too...at the Nationals' stadium we're right next to the owner's box. Once you get box tickets, you'll never want to sit with the unwashed masses again.

Unfortunately, the sales guys get priority...always. I get maybe two games in a year if I'm lucky.
