Quote:

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) -- An Oakland family can't believe police shot and killed their aging Labrador retriever "Gloria." They found out what happened when they got home and saw a note on their front door saying that an Oakland police officer had shot and killed her. Now the family is questioning police policy.

The 11-year-old family dog has an entire page dedicated to her in the Hallock family scrapbook. Matthew Hallock picked the yellow lab out of the litter when he was 3 years old because she looked like his beloved teddy bear.

"Just being a presence was important and it made everything complete. Now that she's gone, it's like missing a family member," says Matthew.

Gloria was shot and killed by an officer who responded to the family's home because the alarm system went off.

Officers left a note on the door stating the dog advanced on the officer in a threatening manner before being shot and killed.

"There is no way you couldn't stop Gloria, if you simply drop a doughnut or ham sandwich in front of her," says Ward Hallock.

Disgusting.

A quick shot of pepper spray and the dog is going to run for the hills.

I wonder, is it that they're that fearful or are they that megalomaniacal? I'm thinking back to the guy shot in the back on the bike. Two guys were drunk and racing on Harley's and the cop had his gun drawn when he pulled them over. WTF? Two guys being jackasses on bikes requires a felony stop? Then the guy turned around because he was confused and that's when the officer shot. The officer was found guilty in that case but I don't want someone that fearful out on the streets.

I also don't want someone who thinks the gun and badge is an extension of their dick like the cop in MD where the kid was facing 16 years for video taping. That officer pulled his gun long before he announced who he was. What for? Because the kid was backing away? WTF would you do if someone jumped out of their car and started coming at you? If I'm armed that officer would be dead right now.

These people are going to have a rude ****ing awakening within the next couple of years. People are going to see them for what they are. I was just told a story about the Pegans MC that Upper Darby officer beat up a couple of bikers and that hundreds of them did laps on West Chester Pike (Pa Rt3) past the police station on a Saturday blocking traffic, scaring people away, causing businesses to close down for the day, etc. Supposedly UDPD called Philly and the response was "You*****ed them off, you deal with them..."

The story is definitely hearsay but it's believable and if it didn't happen it probably will at some point as the police further ostracize themselves.

I know there are probable good cops out there but that doesn't mean jack **** until they come out and stomp all over this kind of ****. If they shut their mouths and look the other way they're just as bad as the bad apples...

"advanced on the officer in a threatening manner. "

Same bull**** phrase they use when they want to shoot a human. Do they have their lawyers OK these ubiquitous phrases for them to lie when they pull their bull**** and try to cover it up?

"If you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail"

Hammer = Cop
Nail = Public

"If you're a cop, everyone looks like a criminal"

I think these people should get to shoot the cop's dog, but that's not at all fair to the dogs...maybe shoot the cop in the foot/knee?

Eye for an eye, anyone?

Cops are the felons. Tax collecting felons.

Indeed. A person can tell on you, an animal can't, so people are more likely to treat animals as they wish.

And I'm getting tired of hearing "I'm sure there's plenty of good cops." Well, if they were truly "good", they'd be enforcing their own rather than looking the other way.

Kinda like all those good muslems.

I'm sure there are good cops, but like in Information Technology no one remembers the "good", only the "bad".

But in IT the "bad" isn't dead dogs or people.

We just need to make the punishment for public servants SEVERE and enforce it.

If you are a public servant and **** it up, you go to jail for a LONG ASS TIME.
If you are a regulator/enforcer(cop) and you don't do your job, you go to jail for a LONG ASS TIME.

Simple.

If you're incompetent you get fired. If you're good, you get paid for it.

Simple.

Public servant scum MUST get more time in prison than the rest of us because of their position of ASSUMED power.

What Big said. There are good cops. The thing is, even good ones can go bad when they figure out there are no consequences to their actions and that they are, in fact, 'above the law.' Same disease that plagues Congress....or anyone in government.

Exactly.

I think it's like the cost of doing business, but if that cost is too high you won't do it. Like if simple corruption of public office meant a caning and 15years in the clink, then IMO, there would be a HELL OF A LOT LESS CORRUPTION.

If the main stream media takes this headline and sends it through their
Liberalization PC machine it will read. "Home alarm system- notifies police and kills family dog."

In 5 - 4 - 3..... Along the lines "SUV kills family of four."

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris.
"We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

The 90% of bad cops give the 10% that ARE good cops a bad name....

When I was younger, I actually admired and respected the police. I even thought about becoming one.... Then I became an adult.....and a driver.

Now wait a minute.

I can't even walk around my neighborhood because people leave their dogs out unleashed, even pit bulls.

I would shoot one of those dogs if it got within 5 feet of me aggressively, and it wouldn't turn into the hassle of a lifetime.

Dog people are psychotic sometimes, "Oh, Wolfie won't bite you! Crunch! Owwwwwwww. Bad wolfie! I don't understand! He never does that!"
