"The good news for President Obama is his popular support among blacks is holding steady at 91%.

The bad news is no other group of potential voters likes him that much.

A new Gallup Poll this morning finds his approval rating for September was 45%, almost the same as August’s 44%. Obama’s not exceeded the crucial 50% level in a single month so far this year.

Democrats (79%) and liberals (75%) still like Obama a lot.

But after that, his approval percentage goes to the deep south. Support among even young people is down: 57%. Hispanics: 55%. Moderates: 54%. Unmarrieds: 53%. Easterners: 52%. Women: 47%. Midwesterners and Westerners: 45%.

Men: 43%. Southerners: 41%. Independents: 40%. Marrieds: 39%. Seniors: 38%. Whites: 36%. Conservatives: 23%.

Among Republicans Obama still manages to hold the support of 12%."

Shopping for a place to post this thought, I knew I could count on Chrono to provide a somewhat related thread for it....

We have a central government--and, further, even government at local levels--that has turned into a juggernaut and seems intent on crushing us into slavery.

So it seems like this might be a good time to direct our thoughts to considering the juggernaut's points of vulnerability. What are the social factors that operate to prevent government oppression and lawlessness from taking hold and progressing?

The first thought that came to me is that, what with the oppressing parties (elites) being very few in number, their most important requirement is that they be able to recruit a very large number of stooges who are willing to use violence against their fellow citizens to enforce the will of the elites. You need cops, judges, politicians at the local levels, and prisons and people to run them.

It seems to me that the elites can only accomplish this where people are divided against each other by things like religion, ethnicity, and class. It's helpful (to the elites) to inflame people's feelings of division as much as possible--to try to create adversarial relationships between groups of people, and even individuals. We have to be willing to fight each other and do violence to each other--preferably at the behest of the elites.

What got me thinking about this was that someone posted that the situation we see even at the level of relations between men and women is an example of this. Another example of this at the individual level is the relations between parents and children.

If the elites stir up enough disrespect, contempt, and hatred among the races, religions, ethnicities, and classes, they can count of a ready supply of stooges to go to work for them, and there will be no shortage of cops willing to bash the heads of their perceived adversaries. At this point, perceived adversaries would include not just races, ethnicities, and the lower classes, but also juveniles.

The elites have many systems in place to teach us to despise each other, and all these systems are hard at work doing just that.

Secondly, I'd say it's hard to co-opt people into a working for a system full of injustice, lawlessness, and violence, if a critical mass of people maintain the highest standards of honesty and ethics. This makes it hard to recruit people who are willing and eager to do things that are wrong to make a living or get ahead--and you need whole armies of them to run an unjust, violent, and corrupt system: cops, judges, attorneys, bankers, businessmen--pretty much everyone must be co-opted.

It seems to me that we're ****ed unless both of these tides (both universal hatred and dishonesty) can be reversed. Frankly, I'm not seein'it, but it's a strange and surprising world. Who can tell?
