the first article is ****ing out of control. The ROE is beyond stupid, in fact worse than those I served under as a member of a couple UN peacekeeping missions, and those were stupid as **** (only 20 rounds on you on patrol...think about that for amin.)

Now the second concerning gays, good. We all served with them anyhow and many of them are damn fine soldiers. I was in the Canadian military when it went to allowed and for all the BS tongue flapping by the senior folks, pols and civilians it had a net zero affect on effectiveness among combat or support troops.

The logical solution to the restrictive ROE is to not send US forces to fight in foriegn urban/guerilla wars where they can't distinguish between friend or foe.

Urban/guerilla wars are the only game in town.

Do You give a **** if a Soldier that is over in Afghanistan Serving this Country with your Son is Gay?
Does it matter if the Soldier standing guard while your Son sleeps is Gay?
Does it matter if the Soldier that lays down cover fire so your Son can take a up a position against the Enemy or make retreat from an exposed position is Gay?
Will it matter to You if the Pilot that flies a chopper in to extract your Son is Gay?
Will it matter to You if the Surgeon that rushes to work on your Son if He is wounded is Gay?
Does it matter if the Soldier is Gay if the Duty to Country is admirably done?

Whether You like it or not your Son's life presently depends on the Soldiers He is serving with; and the high likelihood is that some of those Soldiers are Gay.

Exactly. As far as I'm concerned, the last war that the US had any business being involved in was World War II. That was the last war in which Congress actually made a formal declaration of war, as required by the U.S. Constitution.

For the record, the troops like DADT. They do NOT want to be distracted with the idea that the guy next to him might want to get into his pants. I'm sure there are many excellent soldiers who are gay - but the problem is with their undying need to flaunt it and the VAST majority of men are hetero - and do NOT want to think about these things when sharing showers or a foxhole. ANYTHING that is a distration on the battlefield is a VERY BAD thing. If you haven't been in combat, you have no ****ing idea. So anyone commenting on this issue in this thread who has not personally been in COMBAT has absolutely no understanding of the issue beyond, 'social justice' which has no place in the military now or ever in the past.

I see absolutely no one concentrating on the gay issue has even mentioned the RoE, which was the other part of Jimpad's post. That says volumes.
