Kaint imagine what this will do to "normal" families with fixed REAL budgets...

You cut back as far as you can. You learn to coupon (I feel obligated to mention that) and change your diet. You struggle to find more room in your budget for fresh meats and veggies vs. cheap canned crap.
It sucks and I suspect most here have no ****ing clue how bad it is for the average American right now.

What kind of coffee do you drink?? If you haven't noticed the prices going up & up & up, I need to switch brands.

Maxwell House & Folgers, the (formerly) 36oz canisters - now creeping down to 34oz, 32.8oz...
This week $11.69 31.5oz (!!)
Nov 2010 $11.49 32.8oz
Sep 2010 $10.49 34oz, some 33oz & 33.5oz canisters on the shelf
May/June 2010 $9.99 34oz
Feb 2010 $8.99 36oz

I've been tracking them for a year now.

I wouldn't recommend eating any of the animal protein crap produced in the US.

Spirulina and chlorella are best non-animal protein sources, and vitamins galore.

You can grow it on your own. Easy as pie. Let me know if you need help!

Stop feeding the monster, and the monster will die. Learn to garden. Close
your accounts at the big banks. Stop shopping at the big stores. Take your
TV to the shooting range. Ignore the bitches!! Who needs them? You guys
sound like you depend on THEM for your livelihood. When's that gonna change??

ADD: My big fear is that after markets roll over and we get bearish once again - inflation remains in place due to a weaker US$. That would trap everyone in a very bad way.

Almost anything but the cheap American crap that you see in commercials. There used to be a brand from Mexico called Bustelo that was $3/can and was fantastic. I called several store managers when my grocery chain quit carrying it but it never came back.

Right now I'm drinking Ruta Maya coffee which is imported and roasted locally. It's really dark and rich but not too expensive at around $17.50 for 2.2 pounds of beans.

I used to buy Whole Foods coffee that they roast in the stores but it's too damn expensive. It's at minimum $12/pound.

Costco Kirkland brand 3 lb can about 10.99 last year now 13.99. Love their dark roast. Had to switch back to Folgers at $10 and some change. Too many people living in my house drink free coffee.

Costco still has the best coffee deals I've been able to find. The stuff roasted in the store is cheapest. Good coffee, too.

Jota: Have you checked Wal-Mart? They still carrry Cafe Bustelo up here in WA.

In Fallout 3 it's called "strange meat". In The Road it's called "RUN!"

Jotapay: Well, I'll put the opinion of real cannibals over game and movie makers. :)

Polynesians and maori (I believe) both called it that. I think there are other reports of similar names too.

Punch_rockgroin, thank you thank you thank you, Wal-Mart has it. It's $3.12 for a 10 ounce can. I was just about to go out and buy another bag of Ruta Maya too as it's on its last legs.

If you want true bold, dark coffee, Cafe Bustelo is some really good stuff. It's for those folks who "like the spoon to stand straight up". And it's insanely affordable.

I like bean sprouts, easy to make. Buy mung beans, soak overnight, rinse twice a day, ready in 4-5 days.

POINT- makes 4 to 5 times the original size.

I forgot to mention - the other day at Wally World, I picked up box of Cheerios and that sucka was wafer thin. I couldn't believe they downsized the box again.

I held it up to my husband and said "It's wayfa thin!"

we don't eat those anymore. Strictly store brand plain oatmeal in the big canisters. The kids love it (thanks to our early training of them and no-sugar diet).

A good falafel over rice, and I mean a damn good one, is still available at Kwik Meal on 45th and 6th for $5.50.

Midtown stores, restaurants and streets are still jam packed. If you are suffering but mobile, come to where the money is, New York City!

It's not a stuffy, dirty place. The people are nice and there's abundance everywhere. (knock on wood)

That's not bad for NYC, seriously. But I can get said breakfast taco (which is what that is, basically) here for $1.35 in Austin. And it will be the best quality in town.

Edit: And I make about 1/2 of what I would make in NYC. 50% of the wages but 20% of the COLA. There's no comparison.

I added something at the end of my previous post which I should probably post here. Before I started with my current employer 4 years ago, I considered applying for a job at Pershing or Fidelity in the NY/NJ area as I knew their clearing systems front to back. I would call them to help them debug their systems. I was one of the two people at my broker dealer who knew all the product types and whathaveyous to parse the daily trades correctly into our broker/dealer's commission database.

I had a buddy who worked at JP Morgan IT at the time. He was really goading me to move up there. But the ratios didn't work out. Sure, I could make $200K+. But my expenses would be many multiples what they are here. It just didn't work out as far as what I got per dollar earned.

NYC is an amazing place, but besides the money comparison, I'd be a felon if I moved up there with what I freely own and possess in my house today. I definitely could not stomach that.

Ooooookay, I know this is not food but I just found out our homeowners insurance went up 25%, USAA, says the cost to replace is more than double what we could sell this place for. Oy.

Same thing here Loves2learn... 25% increase despite being with the same insurance company for nearly 20 years (different houses though) and zero claims. Makes me really wish we would have claimed at least one of the covered disasters, but we didn't want our rates to go up and just took care of the issue ourselves. Clearly those efforts and expenses were a complete waste...

by disasters I did only mean complete mess and a large PITA... think large section of shingles off etc... so not really disasters. :)

Reason: little dramatic
