Since so many of us are cost conscious and are stocking up, prepping and what have you, I thought this might be a good place to post good deals that would be of interest to anyone here for any reason. I thought about posting this in the couponing thread, but this really isn't exactly couponing.

My first submission:
My buddy forwarded me this. Amazon.com just started their open-box and returns discount website. I've seen some of the stuff is discounted to 65%, like this Swiss Army Knife: http://www.warehousedeals.com/Victorinox....

http://www.warehousedeals.com

There's http://woot.com too with a daily deal. They focus a lot on electronics and tech gadgets with other miscelaneousness. They sometimes have a "Woot Off" where they sell small quantities of items at even steeper discounts in series until they sell out. It's a circus of fun while you watch to see what comes up next.

http://gotapex.com tells you the Dell and HP PC discount codes of the day.

I'm a horse trader at heart so I'd love to hear of any good deals or flash specials you see.

I'm trying to find Costco's mailer coupons in online format, but so far I've only found their online monthly specials. They have two emergency food advertisements and one of them is already sold out. They also are advertising a generator at $100 off. Edit: AND a vegetable growing system? WTF, Costco?

http://www.costco.com/Service/FeaturePag....

Costco actually had some really useful coupons in their monthly mailer that I got yesterday for things I would use, like toothpaste, razors, cheese and whatnot, but I can't find it online yet.

These are mostly for technology and are probably familiar to some.

Icom IC-706 MK-IIG ham radio found for sale in DFW. This is an amazing HF radio for a really great price. They are very well made and great performers. I'm very tempted to drive up there and buy it myself if he would come down to $475-500. I have an IC-706 (not the MK-IIG) and could replace it with this one as the MK-IIG has noticeably better DSP filters.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/ele/232....

They don't make these any more and I think this 706 line was the all time best selling ham radio ever. These are great for emergency situations like tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. or getting your ham radio license and communicating with other hams. They can be driven from any 12 volt DC source, like your car battery and other sources.

I checked eBay for selling bids on a 706 MK-IIG. Those are actually selling for $720-900 right now, so $600 seems pretty fair if that radio has what you are looking for. It is an all mode, all band portable radio that would probably sell new for around $900-1000 if it was still being made. You would still need a tuner (for HF), a 12V DC power supply if you want to plug it into your AC wall outlet, and antennas. I'm still going to email him and see if he's flexible on price.

anyone in the Tucson area looking for a manual food slicer, Goodwill has one for $5.00

http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Nat....

I just bought this at my local thrift shop. If you buy this one on Tucson - just note that it looks like the front "stop" is missing. No big deal - just know about it. Here is a picture of it:

Jota, about a year ago, I sold an ICOM-751 which I got in a whole garage of radio stuff I bot. Older model, but I heard lots of good stuff about ICOM radios...the 751 apparently is a cultish model.

On another note, I remain beyond impressed with my Brother HL-2140 monochrome laser printer upon which I printed out a 369-page book last night. This printer was $50 on sale at Fry's. I see them on sale for $55 or $60 frequently; the cartridges are about $22 on ebay, too bad if you live in CA where all the sellers happen to be (= sales tax) and I seriously doubt they achieve the rated 2500 pgs/cart, but this little SOB is possibly the best bargain in computer-related stuff I've ever encountered. It's about 6-8 pgs per minute, mono only, USB only, does a stellar job on ordinary b/w documents. I have zero doubt that it would pay for itself just on the maintenance you would save on a color laser printer by avoiding using the color laser for printing mono only. Great piece.

Nike, I love Goodwill. None near me and if we happen to pass one, unless I'm driving, the vehicle speeds up before I can say anything! smiley I have a sickness wherein I love to root through junk looking for some sort of treasure. I used to spend hours in my grandmother's attic just looking through her junk...

At the same shop I got a Foodsaver V2460 with the bags (unopened) and all for $5.00! Need to find a manual for it.

Nice. I love these Icom radios. Every single once I've touched worked perfectly and had about 95-98% of what I would have wanted on it. They are really well made.

I am in some ways glad I sold it before I got interested or obsessed by it. At the time, I was looking to acquire old tube-type hi-fi stuff and placed an ad "We buy tube-based stuff". The first (and best) call was from an older guy who lived a mere 12 blocks away who had a double garage packed with military and ham radio gear and hundreds of NOS tubes, mostly from WW2 era. "Make me an offer on all of it, I want it gone". I sheepishly offered him $800 and he said, "no, that's too much." I was into radio in high school but don't care much for it today. I appreciate the value but my heart ain't in it.

Yeah, that ICOM front panel was thick with buttons and the more I read about it, the more I saw that folks raved about it. It was kind of unfortunate that it was one of the shinier, newer things that I set about recovering my purchase price for the whole garage full of crap on. I thought I had badly overpaid. As it turned out, I spent about $500 on the garage and got about $2000 for what I sold and still have a ton of crap left and even threw out a bunch of stuff. The ICOM looked like a frickin ROCK it was so solid.

I traded a bunch of WW2 radios to this guy who runs the Western Historic Radio Museum for a nice Hickok 6000 gM tube tester and hp power supply. He drove down from Reno and I loaded him up with stuff. He can make a frickin box of rusty parts transmit and receive! He has an absolutely magnificent site if you like old radio stuff. That's (formerly) my ART-13 in his gallery.

Those NOS tubes are worth a fortune today, assuming they are the type used in some of today's single-ended tube amps. If you had a garage full, they would have been worth an insane amount on ebay or Audiogon.com if you sold them individually or in matched pairs.
