Woot is having a Woot-Off today. That means that every 10-60 minutes Woot throws up one of their daily deals and sells it until it runs out. This a is a way to clear out the warehouse of the few odds and ends they have left over from daily deals. The teaser is that sometimes you get a smoking deal on an awesome item where they only have 10 or 12 left. The deal is gone once the yellow bar goes to zero.

Generally productivity around the country plummets on days when there's a Woot-Off.

http://www.woot.com/

The coolest thing about a Woot-Off is that Woot sells a Bag of Crap every time. A Box of Crepes, A Bevvy of Crapeagles, it has many names. A Bag of Crap is always $3 and you get whatever they throw in it. It normally has about 4 or 6 items and it's usually crap. But it only lasts for a minute or so and it's gone. I've gotten one legendary Bag of Crap. It was all crap except that I got a 2011 Woot Calendar which I've never, ever seen before.

I've never had a problem with Seagate or Hitachi platter drives, but I always read the reviews and get a good one.

Both mine are WD's right now, but I've never had an issue with seagate in the past.

Hell, at that price you could buy a nice big raid and if one fails, screw it.

Most of my high cap drives are Hitachi. Zero fails last 3 yrs.

Wd? Ha! Kaboom!

Incidentally when I say "kaboom" on WD, I mean it. I'll take their free replacements but I've needed a bunch of them, including on their so-called "enterprise-certified" black-label drives (which are all over my big RAID arrays, and which blow up more often than anything else I own at present.) **** that crap -- I won't be buying any more of them.

I was just looking at Lenovo W520 workstations for a colleague and their prices are slashed right now by about 50%. You can get a baller workstation with a quad core i7 and SSD drive for $1300. These are $2500-$3000 machines.

Not a sale as you will pay msrp, but if you are looking for a gun belt take a look at

http://www.aresgear.com/index.php?main_p....

I finally got around to getting one and I've worn it for two weeks, and it's absolutely the best gun belt I have ever worn. I've had leather reinforced, riggers belts, etc etc.

It's 80 bucks, spendy for a belt, but not out of line with other dedicated gun belt equivalents. It will take a month to get to your door if you order direct but looks like some of their distributors have them in stock.

Today's Woot has 5 Kershaw folding pocket knives for $13/each. They are Chinese made, but the steel used is virtually the same as AUS-8 steel. For $13, this is a very, very good buy for a good pocket knife. It's certainly not a $100 Spyderco, but Kershaw makes very decent knives.

Kershaw Hunter folding knife with gut hook now on [url www.camofire.com] for $11.99. Not a great knife, but for the price, pretty good. Reviewers had complaints about the handle, and there is a little play between the handle and the blade.

Today's Woot is a selection of small Skil tool sets for $3 each, normally around $10-$17. I have about 5 of these already and they are great for light duty work around the house. I've been saved by the precision screwdriver set a few times.

Shipping is $5, so it cuts down on average price if you get 3 in one purchase.

If you're near a CVS, you might still be able to get in on this deal tonight. Buy 5-12 packs of coke for $3 each, get ecb of $5.00 back. Works out to $2/12 pk of soda. I haven't seen cokes for this price in a couple of years. Since dh & I both have a card, we walked away with 10:-) That should last about 5-6 months. Deal ends tonight.
