Reven's post from the thread in Tin makes a lot of sense out of the unbelievable things that are currently going on in this country. In this light, it makes everything with regard to immigration and the economy seem intentional. We the People are being attacked whether we know it or not and the goal is to bring this nation to its knees so that it will bow and accept what is coming.

If i wanted to create a union with mexico, the first order of business would be to equalize the standard of living. I would slowly collapse the dollar and starve an energy hungry nation of resources. I would blame speculators for the rise in oil prices, obfuscating the true cause.

Once the country reaches a breaking point it will be decided that it's in the long term interests of canada, mexico, and the united states to pool our natural resources together to remain competitive with other world economies. Large fiscal deficits and debt monetization will help to cover up the collapse in private demand as real incomes fall. Eventually merger with Mexico will be seen as a way of maintaining our global competitiveness and tapping into cheap labor to reclaim our lost manufacturing base. As the dollar collapse reaches a breaking point, gold will again be required to settle international trade as a fiat continues to be used for debt and internal use only. Canada and Mexico will agree to the merger to access US gold reserves, as their central banks have very little and are unprepared for the forthcoming monetary changes. The US tapping oil reserves and natural resources in those countries will be seen as a fair bargain, so no gold is required to exit the North American currency zone to settle trade.

Once China's exports require payment in gold, their cheap labor will not seem so cheap anymore. This will encourage more industrialization and manufacturing in North America. Wage arbitrage will shift to location arbitrage, so consumers can use their local fiat currency to purchase goods, eventually balancing the trade deficit and stabilizing gold reserves.

A USA-Canada customs union (but not currency union) would make sense as the countries have similar living standards and massive trade flows (biggest in the world, I believe). It would be beneficial for both countries.

The problem is in involving Mexico. That's a FAIL.

I would think that a US-Canada customs union would be highly disruptive to Canada with their very high GST/HST/whatever they call it now.

Since an inordinately large fraction of the Canadian population lives within 50 miles of the US border, it would be simple for them to come into the US to avoid those taxes, especially for big-ticket items. Could Canada survive financially without being able to collect all those taxes?

When they* were operating in secrecy they couldn't lose. They've been identified and are being watched. Freedom to operate is increasingly limited, and their repertoire of shenanigans have been well described and cataloged. They know their agenda has to be rushed, it's now or never.
