Hello all. I have been using a demo account at AMP Futures with the feed coming from CQG. I have been using Ninjatrader with this setup. Based on suggestions here, I have just been paper trading instruments such as CL, 6E, 6J, etc and over the last couple of weeks have had some success. I was refereed to this broker by a company called Shadow Traders. My question is, more about the broker. Is AMP futures a decent broker? What are some other brokers/software that others here use? Thanks in advance for the help.

Shadow Trader is amusing, but a shill.

Selection bias around here for thinkorswim, which has waned somewhat since Tom Sosnoff sold out to Toronto Dominion.

I will take a look at thinkorswim. I like the ninjatrader set up that I have been using with AMP. As for Shadow traders, I would agree. I have learned more reading these boards than anything.

You may wish to take a look at Asi's thinkscripts - on par with anything NinjaTrader offers, and if you want something custom, most likely he will write it for you.

TOS is limited in ways ninjatrader isn't. I like TOS because it's easy to use and the scripting is reasonably easy to learn and use effectively.

I'm not a great programmer (really, I'm not), but TOS scripting is simple enough to pick up on the fly. However, being simple means there's a lot of stuff I'd love to be able to do that I simply can't.

Variable moving averages being my big sore spot. I still haven't figured out a way to actually make one that works. I've written two scripts that... well, basically emulate a variable moving average, but they're still not all they could be cracked up to be.

I like TOS for many reasons though. I use IB as well and while IB has a much more professional interface, it's also got a much steeper learning curve. TOS can do pretty much anything a retail trader could possibly want to do.

If you trade based on what other people say, you will lose money. Especially what I say. I won't be held responsible. Festina lente.
