Just my normal curiosity-on-overdrive, wasn't interested to buy or sell. I lived in and around Manhattan for much of my life, so you pick up little details like this on the way.

Understood - I was really just kidding - although if you were buying or selling that price range, I might want to get to know you better smiley

If every dumb city fire went into this forum, they'd crowd out everything else.

(Unless the building is particularly important, a fire in one barely qualifies as breaking news in any event.)

It isn't every day that high dollar real estate like that goes up in smoke, and that's actually quite the interesting location for a big fire, given what it's next to...

There was no big fire and no real-estate went up in smoke:

Seven buildings on Manhattan's East Side were evacuated this afternoon as firefighters battled a blaze at a construction site.

As of 5:45 p.m., firefighter declared all clear and allowed residents and business owners to return to their buildings on East 59th Street near First Avenue. The buildings were evacuated as a precaution because of a nearby gas line.

Con Edison shut down gas in the area as firefighters battled the blaze. Dozens of fire units responded to the fire. Fire officials said the blaze began in a trench in a construction site. There have been no injuries reported.

The fire was called in about 2:15 p.m. Friday. Fire officials said the blaze began in a construction site where workers were installing a new water main. In order to install the main, contractors working for the Department of Environmental Protection had to move some Con Edison infrastructure including electrical cables, fire officials said.

The fire may have began when electric cables ignited some wooden planks lining the walls of a work tunnel, fire officials said.
