Let's say I wanted to buy a Brazilian government bond. I don't want to buy a mutual fund or ETF. Is there any way to do this?

From what I'm reading the minimum buy-in is like $100k. Everbank's minimum buy in is like $20K.

Are there other options out there?

TOS has a trading platform in Singapore.

Open a OCBC bank account in Singapore, checking account through the bank, use ACH transfer to wire the cash to your new checking account. No need to establish a post box for legalities. Use the bank for legalities, like a foreign LLC. Ask the bank for a lawyer to begin the simple process of becoming or securing your registered agent. The account for TOS can be opened from your laptop with your new registered agent address. Be sure to open your TOS account as a corporate account not an individual account, use your LLC from Singapore. Now you can buy foreign bonds, foreign stocks, foreign currencies, PM, diamonds, negotiable bonds and store in large lock boxes at your bank, and who knows you may like it over in Singapore some day. If nothing else, take a vacation. It costs $3,500.00 USD to open a TOS account in USA. The opening balance will be about the same amount. One has to live with the foreign exchange fees. Use the rules of the game to your advantage, Corn. I think Americans don't trust foreign banks when it is their own American banks that they should distrust. I love foreign banks!

Good Shorting This Afternoon,

I checked my Interactive Brokers account just now and there are 8 Brazilian government bonds/notes available for trading. The minimum at IB is just 1,000 face value for bonds. There also are bonds from Brazilian banks available for trading.

IB will let you trade damn near anything and everything.

Redshield,

That looks a little too complicated for me at the moment.

Jonathan_pollard and Asimov,

I'll have to look into that.

Does IB have newly issued bonds or existing bonds?

Corn: I've never traded bonds like that, so I really don't know for sure. I think they have pretty much everything that's tradeable though.
