Right now all I have to do is put $75/month in savings to get free checking. Now it seems they want me to keep at least $7500 in their bank to get it. They must need money.

Upcoming change to your Complete Advantage ® Checking account
The August statement for your Complete Advantage Checking account included a message about changes to your account. For your convenience, we've summarized the changes below.
What's changing
Effective November 14, 2011, the options to waive your Complete Advantage Checking account monthly service fee will change.
You can waive the $15 monthly service fee when you have three additional linked qualifying accounts/services and one of the following:

Maintain $7,500 or more in combined balances in deposit or qualifying credit accounts, OR
Maintain a linked Wells Fargo Home Mortgage

If you do not meet one of the above monthly service fee waiver options, this fee can be discounted by $2 per month when you set up and receive online statements for this account.
What you may need to do
Automatic transfers are no longer available to waive the monthly service fee. Please review the new monthly service fee waivers carefully as it may be necessary for you to take action to ensure your account is not assessed a monthly service fee.
What isn't changing

Your qualifying automatic transfer will continue to waive the monthly service fee on select savings accounts.
Your account number will remain the same.
Your automatic payments, transfers, scheduled online bill payments, and direct deposits will continue uninterrupted.
Your account will continue to be FDIC-insured up to the applicable limits.

You will continue receiving the same benefits and services including:

Bonus interest rate on a linked Wells Fargo Money Market Savings SM account1
More than 6,300 Wells Fargo locations and 12,000 ATMs
Free access to Wells Fargo Online® Banking with Bill Pay
Telephone customer service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

If you have questions, or would like to receive a free financial review to see if you have the right accounts and services to meet your financial goals, please contact your local banker or call us at 1-800-TO-WELLS (1-800-869-3557), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Thank you. We appreciate your business.
Sincerely,

Wells Fargo Consumer Deposits Group

I just got the same **** on my business account. Unfortunately, credit unions cannot serve business accounts.

I joined PenFed on your rec, KD. I really like it, but there's no free ATMs around here.

I'm a member of one two that offer business products. Maybe they're at arm's length from the personal side, but the CU's brand them as their own.

RE Credit unions and business accounts, someone ought to tell them:
http://www.premiercu.org/home/bus

Or mine, for example (though I don't have any money on account with them at the moment):

Is this an example of funny account management?

My CU offers business accounts as well.

Briar, Target used to have ATMS in all of their stores that did not charge fees for use. That made them free for CUs and places like ING that don't charge ATM fees.

They've been replaced by Chase ATMs in every Target I've been in lately....

Just opened a PenFed checking account. We'll see how life without free ATMs goes. If not well, I'll have to do something else. Will miss buying stamps at the WF ATM.

One of my CUs has no-fee ATM withdrawals thru Allpoint (though I think it's only 5-6 per month), and these days I usually buy nontrivial items with a points credit card but pay it off in full each month via electronic banking.. There's also some bank-branded ATMs that are in Allpoint and should be free, though I would refuse to continue the transaction if I saw a fee screen popup.

Gawd, I haven't used an ATM in at least 10 years. The fees were ridiculous, plus I never knew what happened to the money-lol! Every couple of months, we go to the bank & withdraw $100 in ones & fives for our "petty cash" fund. Otherwise its credit cards and the occasional check.

Try US Bank, I have a basic business account with them, my balance has been as low as $20 and they haven't charged me for anything.
