Maybe. But at least they're on the streets.

Actually, I wonder how much of the timing of Saturday is because of the large number of young professionals. If it was just the FSA, then Monday would make a lot more sense...

Ugh. I've been following some of the twitter feeds about this and I'm not sure if I should shun them or be joining them.

Too many of them are completely anti-capitalist and pro-FSA for me to sign up but at least they're also yelling about the influence and corruption of the banks.

Quote:
Most Americans are being kept in the dark about the US Day of Rage by the corporate cable news giants at CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC who have imposed a de facto blackout on the protest.

Even though an estimated 50,000 protesters have flooded into Manhattan to, “nonviolently disrupt the disloyal, incompetent, and corrupt special interests which have usurped our nation’s civil and military power, spawning a host of threats to our liberty, lives and national security,” the three cable news networks have devoted no airtime to the story.

This is becoming an all too familiar scene. In Wisconsin hundreds of thousands of regular people took to the streets each weekend to protest the theft of their rights, and were completely ignored by CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.

Sarah Palin’s Iowa tea party speech was 1/50 as big as the Wisconsin protests, yet she was deemed worthy of national media coverage.

The kowtowing of the corporate media to the conservative agenda continued last week as CNN climbed in bed with the Tea Party Express to host a Republican presidential debate that was chocked full of rhetoric about how taxes must be cut to protect the same “job creators” who crashed the US economy in 2008, and have continued to reap record profits by sitting on bailout money, and not hiring any new workers.

CNN decided that the Tea Party was a worthy news partner, but covering a protest that is happening right under their very noses in New York City is not important to the American people. (In fact as I type this, CNN is running another self-congratulatory segment on their Tea Party Express debate/total sellout to the right). No one expects the pro-business corporate propaganda/GOP propaganda mouthpiece Fox News to devote any coverage to the occupation of Wall Street, but the supposed progressive news network, MSNBC can’t “lean forward” long enough to turn off their true crime doc block to cover an event that is happening minutes away from their studios.

The corporate cable news media ignored Wisconsin, and now they are ignoring the protests of regular Americans who want their democracy placed back into their hands. The corporate media have proven time and time again that they are an obstacle to, not a provider of truth. Unlike the bogus tea party movement, the Occupy Wall Street protest features people of all ages, colors, shapes, sizes, and political affiliations. These people are protesting a broken system. They are protesting a loss of freedom. They are protesting inequality, and they are fighting for our rights.

Whether or not the corporate media cameras are in attendance, the protests will go on. Americans will continue to march, and those who love their country will continue to battle to make it better.

The conservative media bias of the cable news industry can and will be overcome. We don’t need video to feel the heart of America beat strong.

Was watching New York 1 News coverage and they interview a woman who speaks out against the influence that corporations and bank have on the gov't and the damage they have done. She specifically mentions high mortgages and student loans. Yet what she doesn't mention is the fact that the gov't and Wall Street got more involved in mortgages and student loans WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!

To get support for more gov't and more loans in the housing market the issue is marketed as a "Homeownership" issue: Many Americans like the idea of more home ownership and the "stability" it brings to communities and the way it supposed to help increase long term personal wealth. Advocates for minorities wanted the ranks of minority homeowners to increase. To argue against efforts to increase homeownership makes you look like an elitist trying to keep others down, or worse a Racist!

The same scam was/is run with Student Loans, increase those Going to College, increase Minority College Attendance, yada yada yada.

It never occurred to those supporting the increase in Homeownership and College Attendance is that these efforts would create a debt orgy that would make the price of homes and college skyrocket while saddling many Americans with crushing debt.

When the Occupy ______________ (fill in the blank) crowd start talking about this, then you will know that they get it. Until then you can be sure that they still support the same policies that they claim to oppose.

These people are protesting the Federal Reserve policies and bank bull****. Why it's being ignored, I have no idea. Plenty of educated people in the crowd.

The story now is why is the mainstream media ignoring the single-largest protest on Wall Street?

Bohemian, ask many of those same people if the .gov should get out of the loan guarantee business, which is a HUGE reason why so many bad loans are made in housing and education, and see what they say. As soon as they realize that fewer poor and fewer minorities will have access to "Homeownership" and "College," you will see their opposition wane.

What I'm trying to say is that too many of these protesters seems like Big Gov't types who don't know that Big Gov't policies and loan guarantees are what caused the problems they're protesting.

That's an issue you made, not one THEY brought up at all. Listen, this isn't left/right. It's the BANKSTERS RIPPING OFF THE ENTIRE NATION AND DOING IT AGAIN NOW. People are*****ed. That's what this is about. These people are doing in peacefully.

Bo, exactly! The protesters DO NOT bring up this issue. The fact is Sallie Mae, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac made this monster, and if you try and get these agencies out of the loan guarantee business many of these protesters would oppose doing that.

They're*****ed that these feel-good social-engineering schemes have created malinvestment and have primarily helped our elitist bankers and politicians. Yet no one brings up ENDING the well-intentioned but counterproductive feel-good social-engineering schemes.

Being "pissed" is not enough. Being knowledgeable is much more important.

You make a good point, Pj. But if you denigrate those who are actually out doing something because they're doing it for the "wrong" reasons, and then turn around and decry people's unwillingness to get involved, the cognitive dissonance is deafening.

Highlighting the theft and identifying the crooks is a fine first accomplishment, however. If we insist that only those with sufficient wisdom to prescribe the correct solution be invited to protest, the protests will be small, indeed.

Steph put it well on her FB wall after I had a 'neo-con' go off and freak out on a FedUp post that I placed on her wall. The FedUp post was about 'Wake up and smell the banking corruption': http://networkedblogs.com/n63OG

Let me quote what Steph said, because it's exactly how I feel about this whole 'capitalism' horse**** argument.

Quote:
Unfortunately, I have the most difficulty with those who claim to be 'conservative' when it comes to taking an objective look at the corruption on Wall Street or with the Banking industry. They keep wanting to look at both of these as 'capitalism' - and any attack on them is perceived as an attack on capitalism. Sadly, they don't notice that #1 we don't HAVE capitalism anymore and #2 these same entities they hold in such high regard have donated more to Obama and his liberal causes than any other campaigns to which they've formerly donated in history.

Needless to say, I deleted the friend. **** em.
