Hey maybe ALL the OWS guys are really gov't operatives!
Or maybe some just imply that if anything bad is blamed on an OWS participant then he/she "may" have been a gov't plant. Of course there is no proof that some .gov agent stole anything in the church. And when the Pastor demanded the item be returned lo and behold the others were able to find the item and return it.
Were the other 60 people sleeping there complicit with this gov't agent?
Why don't they ID the guy so the press can investigate him and his job as a gov't agent can be exposed? That would help their movement and it would get the public very angry at the gov't.
Showing a picture of a guy with an earpiece at a courthouse miles away from the church and on a different date is nothing but a smoke screen; it doesn't even remotely approach anything known as proof that the .gov stole the religious item. Some cop with an earpiece at a protest is NOT the same as an undercover agent. An undercover agent is not going to have a police radio, especially if he's spending so much time with them that he's getting access to a church along with them during the overnite hours. It's not like he's sleeping in the woods, miles away from the other cops. This is NYC, there are still payphones here!

Wait..maybe you missed it...the lid was 'stolen'. So the question is...was the bronze lid of the font worth something??? Bronze isn't worth that much so you need a lot of it to be worth something...the labor to create the lid font would be a lot though. So why not take the whole thing if they were gonna scrap it for cash?? As the article states even 'crackheads did not steal it'...so what purpose did it serve just taking the lid? Was it a practical joke on the pastor?? Or was it taken to***** people off?? The pastor is part of OWS too btw. Ah yes...the most logical...to***** people off and create animosity between a group of people...in this case the person providing shelter for the other #ows protesters. If the .gov can organize society so that they can send human beings to the moon...make power from nuclear energy...you really think the government won't do whatever is necessary to protect itself from its enemies just like its done in the past (black panthers, commies, etc through programs like COINTELPRO) by preventing people from coming together to oppose it? Like I said a propaganda show. The only reason the article was even printed was the NY Post journalists were scouring through the OWS spokes meeting minutes and saw that the OWS'ers were paying the pastor for the laptop and the font lid. We haven't been here before http://west-parkpress.blogspot.com/2012/....Quote:The day starts chaotically enough when New York Post reporter Candice Glove arrrives wanting to interview me about the baptismal font. She had read the minutes of the previous night’s spokes council meeting online and wanted to investigate. She had spent a night in Zucotti herself and experienced it in the scary days. I am naturally wary of the Post. They supported us during the landmarks process, but generally portray me as a naive bleeding heart liberal around issues of homelessness. So I will try to control the narrative.
I want her to understand that the movement cannot be blamed for trying to deal with those the rest of society has cast off. And that the vast majority here are working very hard to build community. The undercover agent had a hoodie to hide his earpiece..actually several hoodies to choose from lol. Did he take the hoodie off on purpose or by accident? Did it come off when he was pushing people? Maybe he got all worked up and hot after pushing people and forgot about the earpiece and cooled off by taking off the hoodie. But clearly he was undercover since he was not in uniform. And that undercover was part of the Occupy The Courts demonstration in Washington, DC. Was he capital police or local? Probably local..would think federal police have better toys than local crews. The FBI probably has the best and latest tech out of all law enforcement officials. Actually whats more interesting is that the .gov just stole $5,000,000 from taxpayers for debt while I typed this. How much did MF Global steal again? Yet this article about stealing (and the others before about pooing and violence) gets more buzz. lol

I was in SF this weekend and as I walked down Market near Union Square I passed a Wells Fargo having its doors and windows boarded up. I asked the workers what was going on, and they told me it was a protection against the Occupy Movement. Earlier that day the radio mentioned an Occupy group had vandalized a Lamborghini dealership.

It's a rule as old as criminal justice itself: Punch a cop, go to jail.
Gregory Brice, 31, was sentenced today to 19 months in county jail for punching an LAPD officer during the Occupy L.A. protest at Bank of America Plaza on Nov. 17. The City Attorney's Office, which has seen a number of its Occupy cases dismissed, touted the conviction in a press release this afternoon.
According to prosecutors, Brice shoved a security guard to get into the Bank of America Plaza protest, then ran at a line of officers. When the officers attempted to arrest him, he threw punches and hit one cop in the face. As the cops took him to the ground, he continued to kick and punch the officers.
"He felt he was doing the right thing at that moment. They were there for a cause," said Brice's attorney, Nagmeh Shariatmadar. "He was hoping the jury would be on his side and they weren't."
Brad Rothenberg, the deputy city attorney who handled the case, said the jury took about an hour to convict Brice on 14 misdemeanor counts. Rothenberg, who handled one other Occupy trial, said that jurors have been generally supportive of the ideas of the Occupy movement, but hostile to its approach.
"When you talk about the tactic of sleeping in the park, and occupying certain locations, juries don't like that," Rothenberg said. "The juries have not been sympathetic at all."
The City Attorney's Office said that of the six Occupy cases that have gone to a jury trial, five have resulted in convictions. The sixth ended in a hung jury. Brice was among a small number of Occupy defendants who have been charged with using violence. Most have been accused of trespassing or failing to disperse.
"He's not representative of the people who were arrested at Occupy L.A.," said Jim Lafferty, an attorney with the National Lawyers Guild, who worked on behalf of the protesters. "This was a peaceful movement from beginning to end."
Brice has been in custody since November. In light of the Sheriffs Department's early release policy, it's not clear how much of his 19-month sentence he will serve. Brice had a prior criminal history, including a charge of felony evading in Texas, Rothenberg said. Shariatmadar said Brice's sentence was relatively long because he refused probation. She said she would file an appeal.
Update: Here are the other cases that have gone to a jury.
Emily Francis. Convicted of resisting arrest and failure to disperse, scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 31. Danny Johnson. Convicted of failure to disperse. Sentencing scheduled for Feb. 1. Justin Fragosa. Convicted of failure to disperse. Sentenced to 10 days in jail, 20 days of Caltrans work, 24 months of probation. Jason Brodsky. Convicted of failure to disperse. Sentencing scheduled for Jan. 31. Andy Diaz. Hung jury (9-3 for conviction). Case dismissed.

Blackcat, are you kidding? Do you really think your avg petty thief is some calculating, analytical being who only makes logical choices?
It's called a crime of opportunity. Unattended property has been growing legs since the beginning of time. Often times the thief waits until he's free and clear to examine his take and decide what he's gonna take and what he's gonna discard. Ever see a pocketbook on the street or in a trash can? There's a chance it was left there by a thief who removed the bag and then later went thru it, took what they wanted (usually money and maybe credit cards) and then left the rest of the bag.
Baptismals are pretty big, so that would explain taking parts of it.

So how much does the lid of the font weigh? You can see the font in the picture. Lids are pretty light. The whole font itself would weigh the most (probably 40 pounds) and be worth way more than the lid in scrap value (yet they did not steal that).
So the lid...5 pounds maybe?
If its pure yellow brass its worth $1.50 per pound in scrap. If its contaminated its half that at 75 cents. This person did that for $2.50-$7.50? It would have been worth it to steal the old phone cables or the plumbing in the church...at least the scrap copper is worth something. Actually taking the church van catalytic convertor would pull $200-$300 alone.
So no I disagree with you cause to me its pretty clear that the person who did this did it to create animosity in the group and their host...and they succeeded. But hey think whatever you want.

TWO OF THE LAST MAJOR OCCUPY ENCAMPMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES HANDED THEIR WALKING PAPERSWashington DC McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza Occupiers told they can't camp out anymore beginning Monday, January 30th. Quote:Justin Jacoby Smith, a 25-year-old activist with OccupyKSt, said that the protesters were conducting a 24-hour vigil in line with the NPS use guidelines for the site and that he thought people were "incorrectly" reading the NPS moves as an eviction notice.
"I don’t think that’s what we’re dealing with here. I think what we’re seeing from the park police is a sort of very slow creep of their enforcement of this so-called no-camping rule," he said, adding that he thought the enforcement was also “just another part of that broader strategy of trying to whittle down the (protester) numbers slowly.” The Offical National Park Service Notification Bulletin: http://www.nps.gov/nama/parkmgmt/upload/....Press story from MSNBC: http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/0....

BIG TROUBLE IN OAKLAND TONIGHTDuring an action dubbed 'Move-in Day' Apparently an Oakland Police officer stormed into a crowd and stole a camera out of the hands of a citizen reporter. This has sparked off a confrontation with police who are now firing non-lethal rounds and tear-gas. Crowd is on the march, very agitated and a kettling attempt by the police is underway. OPD had put out a mutual aid order for police reinforcement from surrounding agencies. Failure to disperse order given, mass arrests underway. To quote; Police ordering marchers to 'submit to arrest'. BAD SITUATION UNFOLDING - MASS BEATINGS UNDERWAY - NUMEROUS SERIOUS INJURIESNOTE: The camera owner is question is a well-known videographer in the movement named 'Freedom' who is seen on Ustream under the moniker 'OccupyfreedomLA'. This police action may harbinger the next phase of police crackdown on the movement by targeting of all the many camera holders identified high-profile citizen video coverage by taking their means to do their job. Very much a Russia like tactic. Appears police intent on arresting 100's of protesters. Mass arrest procedure underway. Watch it live now: http://www.ustream.tv/occupyoaklandOr overhead: http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/livenow?id=85....

OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland police used tear gas and "flash" grenades Saturday to break up hundreds of Occupy protesters after some demonstrators started throwing rocks and flares at officers and tearing down fencing. Three officers were hurt and 19 people were arrested, the Oakland Police Department said in a release. No details on the officers' injuries were released. Police said the group started assembling at a downtown plaza Saturday morning, with demonstrators threatening to take over the vacant Henry Kaiser Convention Center. The group then marched through the streets, disrupting traffic. The crowd grew as the day wore on, with afternoon estimates ranging from about 1,000 to 2,000 people. The protesters walked to the vacant convention center, where some started tearing down perimeter fencing and "destroying construction equipment" shortly before 3 p.m., the release said. Police said they issued a dispersal order and used smoke and tear gas after some protesters pelted them with bottles, rocks, burning flares and other objects. Most of the arrests were made when protesters ignored orders to leave and assaulted officers, the release said. By 4 p.m., the bulk of the crowd had left the convention center and headed back downtown. The demonstration comes after Occupy protesters said earlier this week that they planned to move into a vacant building and turn it into a social center and political hub. They also threatened to try to shut down the port, occupy the airport and take over City Hall. In a statement Friday, Oakland City Administrator Deanna Santana said the city would not be "bullied by threats of violence or illegal activity." Interim police Chief Howard Jordan also warned that officers would arrest those carrying out illegal actions. Oakland officials said Friday that since the Occupy Oakland encampment was first established in late October, police have arrested about 300 people. The national Occupy Wall Street movement, which denounces corporate excess and economic inequality, began in New York City in the fall but has been largely dormant lately. Oakland, New York and Los Angeles were among the cities with the largest and most vocal Occupy protests early on. The demonstrations ebbed after those cities used force to move out hundreds of demonstrators who had set up tent cities. In Oakland, the police department received heavy criticism for using force to break up earlier protests. Among the critics was the mayor, who said she wasn't briefed on the department's plans. Earlier this month, a court-appointed monitor submitted a report to a federal judge that included "serious concerns" about the department's handling of the Occupy protests. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/28....-- As of this post, it was still going on. Cops kettled protesters in, more arrests.

Appears that approximately 200-300 are swept up for arrest in this latest event in Oakland. Mass sitting of arrestees: More arrestees - Block long lineup for processing: Lineup leads to this arrestee booking area:

THINGS IN OAKLAND ARE VERY ACTIVE TONIGHTAnother march of 500 protesters has sprung up in another part of the city, nearby 14th and Telegraph, scene of previous demonstrations. Watch live Ustream coverage here. http://www.ustream.tv/occupysfMeanwhile, More officers with booking computers added to handle the backlog of arrestees: Having run out of transportation capacity, Oakland PD calls in more buses from San Mateo County across the bay. They ran out of buses Alameda and Contra Costa County pressed into service. Realizing that 100's need to hauled away to lockup, OPD calls in an entire fleet of buses from corrections to multiple transit agencies to cart away the 'bodies' (as they characterize it). NOTE: This part most likely has the coordination fingerprints of the Department of Home|and Security all over it (as seen in several other cities recently) p.s. To all the Occupiers within a large crowd who chant 'They Can't Arrest Us All'... the answer is: Yes they can... which may be the response to what appears to be a planned large response march tomorrow, Sunday, in Oakland.

Bill Moyers wrote..A week or so ago, we read in the New York Times about what in the Gilded Age of the Roman Empire was known as a bacchanal -- a big blowout at which the imperial swells got together and whooped it up.
This one occurred here in Manhattan at the annual black-tie dinner and induction ceremony for Kappa Beta Phi. That's the very exclusive Wall Street fraternity of billionaire bankers and private equity and hedge fund predators. People like Wilbur Ross, the vulture capitalist; Robert Benmosche, the CEO of AIG, the insurance giant that received tens of billions in bailout money; and Alan "Ace" Greenberg, former chairman of Bear Stearns, the failed investment bank bought by JPMorgan Chase.
They got together at the St. Regis Hotel off Fifth Avenue to eat rack of lamb, drink and haze their newest members, who are made to dress in drag, sing and perform skits while braving the insults, wine-soaked napkins and petit fours -- those fancy little frosted cakes -- hurled at them by the old guard. In other words, a gilt-edged Animal House, food fight and all.
This year, the butt of many a joke were the protesters of Occupy Wall Street. In one of the sketches, the bond specialist James Lebenthal scolded a demonstrator with a face tattoo, "Go home, wash that off your face and get back to work." And in another, a member -- dressed like a protester -- was told, "You're pathetic, you liberal. You need a bath!" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-moyer....

Press Release: Anonymous Hacked Documents Reveal Law Enforcement Spied on Occupy and Shared Information with Private Intelligence Company, STRATFOR http://deepgreenresistance.org/pressrele....] Quote:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 26, 2012
Contact Deep Green Resistance: Lierre Keith lierrekeith[at]yahoo[dot]com Aric McBay aric[at]aricmcbay[dot]org (847) 773-7478 View documents here. http://pastebin.com/67P3vMJB
View Deep Green Resistance response and picture of Stratfor employee here.
Computer hackers known as Anonymous leaked information obtained by hacking into private intelligence firm Stratfor’s computer network. The documents – what Anonymous is calling a teaser – suggest that from at least October to November 2011 Stratfor worked with Texas law enforcement to infiltrate the Occupy movement and spy on the Deep Green Resistance movement. The document contains emails in which Stratfor employees discuss Occupy Austin and Deep Green Resistance. Stratfor “Watch Officer” Marc Lanthemann writes about receiving information on Occupy Austin and DGR from a “Texas DPS agent.” The Texas Department of Public Safety is a statewide law enforcement agency that includes an Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division.
Deep Green Resistance condemns the surveillance and infiltration of activist groups by law enforcement and private corporations and calls on activists and their allies to expose and protest this violation of all of our constitutional rights.
“Law enforcement sharing information about local activism with private intelligence firms should be a huge scandal,” writes Rachel Meeropol, staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights. “Privately funded surveillance and infiltration of activist groups is especially chilling, as time and again we see such corporations operate as if they are above the law and accountable to no one.”
In the emails, the staff discuss how a Texas DPS agent went undercover and tried to gather information from an Occupy Austin General assembly, as well as receiving information from what he calls “my Occupy people” about people they assumed were in Deep Green Resistance. Comments in the email suggest that the agent’s surveillance of Occupy Austin was ongoing and continued past the incidents described. In addition, the Stratfor staff describe doing online research on DGR Austin and Deep Green Resistance more generally. They wrongly described the purpose of a DGR Austin public meeting on what radicalism means for Austin as “indoctrination”; they wrote about the book Deep Green Resistance, and they speculated about the relationship between DGR Austin and other groups.
Stratfor and law enforcement not only violated activists’ constitutional rights, they also were grossly incompetent. Their report is full of hasty generalizations and inaccuracies. They confuse members of the DGR action group in Austin (which does exist) with another group they call the “Phoenix commune” (which may or may not exist). And they allege a conflict between members of the DGR Austin group and Occupy Austin that doesn’t seem to have happened. It’s not clear if this is part of the strategy counterintelligence groups have used in the past to try to provoke conflict between different social movements—the FBI used this very effectively against groups like the Black Panther Party—or whether Stratfor is simply relying on unreliable or incompetent sources.
In addition, their claim that DGR is inspired by Nazism and philosopher Martin Heidegger is outrageous and obviously wrong. As is their claim that DGR “is focused on creating a situation where violent confrontation will be the ultimate outcome.” It doesn’t require an agent to get simple facts correct. Both of these assertions are just plain false.
In December 2011, Anonymous attacked the Stratfor website, allegedly stealing 200 gigabytes of data and shutting the site down for weeks. Anonymous has gone after such corporations before, such as internet security firm HBGary. They released private documents that included secret plans by HBGary and others to attack and discredit Wikileaks on behalf of big banks.
There is a long history of clandestine groups releasing secret information about the surveillance of social movements. In 1971, and underground group called the Citizen’s Commission to Investigate the FBI broke into an FBI field office and released thousands of pages of secret information, revealing that the FBI had attacked 1960s social movements with methods ranging from surveillance and infiltration to targeted assassinations. Though we have no contact with Anonymous, their leak of information about government and corporate tactics of repression is part of an important tradition. More leaked information from Stratfor is presumably forthcoming. 2 Stratfor.com regarding the hack http://www.stratfor.com/hacking-news
