Hope this ok to post here. Have any of you guys been a Propretary Trader? i really am interested and wondering if anyone here knew of or could share any experiences. I heard some say long hours or they take too large of a cut. I heard some have loved it from online reviews. Are there salary plus % of profits? How about Benefits? Any insight would be appreciated.....thanks!

I have worked as a prop trader for a decent size firm and would consider it again. Although now you need a series 56. So I'm not to wild on that.

No salary.
Hours were great, but I tend to work way too much anyways.
No benefits but I always made more than enough to purchase insurance.
Commissions were always great, but you most likely will be on a graduated scale depending on the firm. Some of the larger houses are *****s and you will starve for 6 months to 2 years. Then again, you are proving yourself.

A few things to ask,
1. How do they work the risk management?
2. How do they graduate you on a risk basis?(no one is going to let you trade millions until you prove your skills) Even then, they have controls in place.
3. Do they share the ECN rebates?

Some firms will let you prop trade your own accounts as well. The advantage to this is you can go 60+ times margin. But you are under the control of the risk manager for obvious reasons.

Where did you get your training? How long have you traded?

I know a few people as well that still do it. It's not a bad living.
