I'm in CT too. Got about 8 to 10 inches so far and it keeps coming. Wet, heavy stuff that the snow blower hates.

Here's a shot of I-84 at about 3:45pm. The mayor closed the streets at 4pm.

Using this much salt on the roads this early in the season is not going to be a good thing for some places on tight budgets already.

lol, it's the slush compacted into ice that's the problem. We've certainly had more snow in these parts but it's about as slippery as it gets... And I haven't seen a municipal plow all day.

Nanna that is hysterical...I'm stealing it. Actually looked to see how much the kid will get. I never know where to find accurate info. Hubby is a pilot and gets his weather from them somehow - but he is in Arizona - kid is in Binghamton and she tends bar on Saturdays nights. She has to be at work at midnight! I told her to text me when she leaves, arrives, leaces work and arrives home. I HATE these early storms!

Anyone know the most accurate weather forecast/report???

We got about 14 inches. Power went off for a couple hours overnight, but so far, so good.

@Binney, I get the best info from the local weather guy out of Albany for our area (wten.com) or from the Facebook page for the county emergency services. Perhaps you can find analogous sites for your kid's area.

30 miles north of Albany, just a dusting, doesn't even cover the grass.

Not one wind-blown flake so far in The Great Brown North. It rained two out of every three days every month from April to mid-July, then the spigot shut off and we've had just one storm with any decent precipitation since then.

Driving from Albany to New Haven on Sunday after the storm, I saw an unbelievable number of trees leaning over power lines and the road for more than 30 miles on Rt. 8 north of Winfield Ct- Thousand of trees need to be cut, failure to maintain infrastructure with routine roadside/powerline trimming bit them badly.

This has been Mention numerious times among New England Members quite a bit on the Weather Board I frequent.. There really hasn't been been ANY Infrastructure Maintance done what-so-ever, as far as Tree Trimming et al, and over hanging trees and such, for several years in places as I understand from most people up that way..
In Conjuction With Irene, coming through, Power Companies had to deal with that issue very recently..
Further Damage was/is caused by the Full Foliage that was still on the trees for the most part also.. Snow sticks to leaves, and being "wet snow",(AKA Cement, as some people called it); well, lotsa tree(s) came down..

Though, People, (AKA politician(s),, cannot see the Effects, or think for them-selves, instead Hire, (spend lots of tax-payers Moola) for a *Investagtor* or Investagation(s), to find out the *whys* of the Power Outage(s)...

Tens of thousands of homes remained in the dark Sunday a week after a freak October snowstorm paralyzed the Northeast and cut power to more than 3 million customers.

In Connecticut, more than 112,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers were still in the dark.

Governor Dannel Malloy said the power company would not meet its goal of 99 percent restoration in each city and town by midnight on Sunday.

Malloy has called for an investigation into the massive and lengthy power outages that peaked at more than 830,000 customers statewide without heat and electricity during the unusual October snowstorm.

"As soon as everyone's lights are back on, we need to have a very timely, thorough review of the power companies' performances, to identify what went wrong, why it went wrong, and most importantly identify solutions for the short-term before the next winter storm impacts Connecticut," smiley Malloy said in a statement.

The deadly snowstorm that barreled through the Northeast last weekend and dumped more than two feet of snow in parts of the region has been blamed for more than a dozen deaths.

In Massachusetts, where about 11,000 customers remained in the dark, Attorney General Martha Coakley has also called for a formal investigation of the power companies' restoration efforts.

A few thousand customers were still without power in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Temperatures across the Northeast were forecast to climb into the 60s by Tuesday, according to AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Tom Kines, with some areas perhaps touching 70 degrees on Tuesday or Wednesday, challenging record highs.

Is it that hard to Figure Out?! For Lords Sake!
EDIT:
whats really funny about this, it was discussed on and Among Mets whom discuss Weather, and Forcasted this Happening! 2 weeks out in Advance from the "event" itself!...
A "Extream" soloution was Showing up on ALL the models, turning the Impossible, into the very Probable with-in 3 days from the Event.. Alarm(s) were raised, but CLIMOTLOGICALY SPEAKING(It's not going to happen? Right?), It was discounted by the *higher-ups*,(NWS et al) as not to raise Public Alarm, or it was just *impossible*.. Or looking very foolish to have such a event NOT to pan out.. Well, see where that got everyone..
As NO~ONE Saw it Coming
Seems the Answer for events these Days... Even in the Weather Dept..

Perhaps if Governor Malloy had ordered all state employees to immediately stop what they were doing and rush out to start hugging trees and shaking them as hard as they could, they might has managed to jostle loose all the leaves before the sticky snowflakes starting gluing themselves to everything at 33F.

What Malloy did was to order state workers to report to work on the Monday after the storm when 90%+ of the gas stations in the metro Hartford area were closed due to power outages.

The mile long gas lines were, of course, "unexpected".

Malloy thinks leadership consists of pointing fingers and appointing commissions.

He reminds me of some corporate types from my past.
