Flu-like Death Cluster In Calvert County Maryland

The first patient, an 83-year-old woman, became sick on Feb. 23. Three of her children, a son and two daughters all in their 50s, arrived on Feb. 28 to take care of her.

The mother died on March 1. One daughter, 56, and her son, 58, both died on Monday while a third daughter, 51, remains at Wash Hospital Center in critical condition.

The above comments describe a death cluster in Calvert County, Maryland. Anecdotal reports also describe a fifth victim, the funeral director who had contact with the bodies. These reports also indicate fatal cases were coughing up blood and the funeral director was hospitalized with breathing difficulties.

Note: Follow up reports suspect H5N1...CDC samples being evaluated

Another Fatal H3 Case In Maryland?

My 33 year old sister died on Tuesday morning in BWMC (old North Arundel) she got sick over the weekend was coughing up blood by Monday and died 4:30 am Tuesday. Hospital said it was pneumonia. but It happened so fast. sounds just like what these people had.

The above comments represent another anecdotal report on flu-like cases in the Washington DC area. The above fatal case (33F) was said to be at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center, just south of Baltimore, and was in response to comments on the Calvert County cluster, which has been H3 confirmed.

Great...you guys mentioned the "F..L..U"...now this thread will be monitored...oh well, most of the site is by now.

The 83 yo isn't too terribly surprising...but the 50 yo's definitely raises some eyebrows...and if the 33yo in Ulsterirish's link is the same...this could be very bad.

How strange, the medical supply warehouse I am temp accounting at just shipped a ton of stuff to five different hospitals in that area. The customer to be invoiced was a third party llc who did not show up on any google search and we even changed our payment terms to make this shipment per the owners demands who insisted it get done. just for them on a next day 16 pallette shipment that gave guys overtime. I did not even think till i saw this thread. connected? They paid a pretty penny and this warehouse is not that sort of high volume. Oh we do blanket PO's but not like this. This was all sterilizing and respiratory gear. Totally last minute. From what i could tell, we did 30% of our annual business just today.

OH oh.

Yea our policy is always N30. Now we got stuck with a n90 on a half million dollars worth of merchandise. I find it very strange but i have only been at the place for 4 months. I guess time will tell.

Interesting, live in MD but haven't heard anything about this. I don't follow local news outlets very closely because they are worthless. I am still usually aware of major stories, I'll have to keep my ears and eyes open.

they better hope more clusters dont start showing up.. it'll be straight up like the movie contagion. except worse.. cause so far.. this bug has infected 100% it comes in contact with and damn near has killed 100%. The 4th person is in critical condition.

If the mortician got it and died as being reported. Its likely airborne and is already outside of the family and a quartine situation is probably being considered if not already in the work. .Gov probably is already on full alert.

Big pharma stocks seemed to have rallied alot before this news came out.

Karl, people will think its a regular old flu. Right up until the very end.

Short of locking yourself indoors, you cannot do much about it. What to me is shocking is the secondary infection. It seems this thing engages your immune system and the natural bacteria found everywhere that usually is kept in check easily cannot be held back.

That is EXACTLY what I intend to do if this begins to get legs.

What's weird to me is why an 83 year old would get something this virulent first.

We've been damn lucky nothing deadly/contagious has gotten loose in a densely populated area. I'm shocked that it hasn't. Thus far, most of the really bad **** has occurred in remote 'primitive' locations where the diseases simply burn themselves out. By the looks of this, that luck might have already run out.

If any of these people came into contact with someone about to catch an airplane or other mas-transit....oh damn, it's probably already too late.
