When the Powerball amount gets really large I'll buy one random-pick ticket, maybe once a year.

I never buy scratch offs for myself. Hubbys family seems to like them so I'll put one on top of their Christmas presents, under the bow.

I maybe spend 5-10 bucks a year on games like this, if that.

It's totally a tax on the stupid and the odds of getting hit by lightning are much greater, but it's a cheap thrill for a buck or two when the pot gets really enormous.

People spend 8 bucks to sit through really really bad movies. I spend $1 for a lotto ticket 8 times per year and I get to have REAL lotto fantasies which are far more entertaining than any crappy 8 dollar movie. Just last week I told the woman who cuts my hair that if I won, I was coming in every day for the full service scalp massage and hot towel treatment. That conversation alone was worth the price of the ticket. smiley

...and don't try to tell me you can have lotto fantasies without a lotto ticket. It's not the same.

Killjoys.

I might buy a ticket or two once or twice a year.

I did win $70 back in the 1990's.

Weird story: One time in college, I was watching TV when the live lotto drawing (in GA) came on. As the number balls were being drawn up into the machine, I started picking numbers in my head. Hit the first 3 (out of 6) in order.

I agree that the total is very high. I thought lotto revenues were down overall, so GA had to cut back on the HOPE scholarships?
