My old HP Deskjet AIO T45 just died. It is time to look for a replacement. Does anyone have any recommendations for Wireless capable All In One Color inkjet printers. The most important factor for me is the availability of low cost generic cartridges for this printer. I do not want to have to spend $80 bucks on ink every few months.

My old HP Officejet all in one just conked out on Tuesday. I got an email from HP the same day for a Spring sale on printers (I think it was only good till the 7th, might still have have the free shipping though). After looking all around at HP printers I purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600. It was cheapest one that would print out legal size (which I had to have) and had the separate ink jets which I guess are suppose to go further and save on cartridges. Ordered it Weds and got it Friday. Easy to put together and everything works great so far.

What are you intending to print most of the time? (business stuff, personal documents, photographs, etc?)

Note that the "I don't want to blow money on ink" is a good argument IF your use is business or personal documents. If, however, you wish to print photographs then unless you can profile the printer AND the inks you use are consistent from lot to lot you're going to find that color fidelity just plain sucks.

I have a photo printer that I just recently bought and while the cartridges are pricey it doesn't use them up quickly, so it balances out. The other thing to keep in mind is that some brands have a reputation for clogged nozzles (Epson in particular); I've tossed two Epsons over the years for exactly this reason and it*****es me off bigtime when it happens as that's a problem that can get very expensive very fast. I refuse to buy Epsons any more for exactly this reason.

My "business printer" is a Brother 9320CW color laser (actually LED I believe) "all in one"; it works very well and has a decent per-page cost, in addition to not being subject to problems with clogged nozzles. It's color fidelity out of the box is somewhat-****ty but for business or personal printing it's fine and you can profile it to dramatically improve color fidelity. It is NOT, however, a competent photo printer. The scan and fax capability are also excellent and the ADF works without jamming (a big deal for me.) Third-party cartridges are available for it. Finally, being a laser and single-pass for both B&W and color it's FAST. It's wireless-capable (along with USB) but I currently use it as a wired device connected to my LAN since I happen to have free ports hanging around on the wall in the room where it is. One annoyance with the unit is that it will claim to be out of toner when it really is not; fortunately I found the hidden reset menu on the unit and it's a 30 second deal to clear that (bawhaha) -- eventually you will REALLY run out but there's another ~200-500 pages of printing in the unit after it says "toner out" before it really is, and that definitely counts! It also has separate drum and toner units (along with the waste bin) which matters a great deal in terms of operating cost; I've yet to need drum replacements. Drum life is greatly-influenced by you -- if you scratch them (foreign material on the paper you load) you're screwed but if not they last a loooong time.

Yep - Epson made some crummy ink that was causing them to clog - they finally fixed that - at least I haven't had any problems on a formerly clogged printer that I cleaned. It has worked fine for several years after they fixed their ink formula. But it cost me a ton in ink when it was clogging very frequently, and left me with no love for Epson. Currently using a very cheap HP Photosmart that can do a decent job for all the basics, and it will work with Costco refills!

Karl

This printer will only be for personal use and for printing documents. I don't really care about color fidelity. I will probably only print photographs if the document or website I am printing contains it. The 9320CW sounds like a good candidate for me. I'll research it and check out some reviews on Amazon.

How much do the generic drum and toner units cost for the 9320CW?

Where are you buying them? Ebay?

The toners I've bought from a couple of places, not the same one twice. They last a good long time.

I haven't needed to buy drums yet and I've had the unit for a couple of years. The claimed life is 15k impressions on the drums.

Go to goodwill and pick one up for 10$ and just buy new ink. Printer tech hasnt really changed in over a decade.

I never get anything but Laser. My HP3055 is going on 6 years old and still is solid as a rock for home use. I've *NEVER* changed the toner. I fired it up for the first time in 6 months for tax season the other day and to print a 100 page manual - still printed perfectly. I challenge any Deskjet to that test.

Well worth the $400 I paid for it.
