I don't know how to make my point any better, it's an instant classic.

It's gonna be a blowout hit in the theaters because of the comedy - and the message behind it is about as powerful as could legally be put in a movie. I mean... this is close to that "yelling fire in a crowded theater" line. VERY close.

Sorry, most movies just don't yank my chain, but this one pulled my ****ing chain OFF.

Vegas: Apparently only itunes till it comes out at the movies on 5/11.

[Edit: That is, if you insist on it being legit.]

Hmm... I may need to rephrase that and say that it's only on itunes as far as I'm aware. The trailer just says "on demand 4/6, theaters 5/11."

Good reviews though!

Are you one of those people who feel ill when exposed to reality televison? Did you watch the moive Idiocracy and think, "This isn't just a movie, it's a prophecy." Do you let idiots win arguments because it just isn't worth it to waste the oxygen? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then I highly recommend that you watch God Bless America.

God Bless America has to be one smartest films I've seen in years. This isn't some generic garbage that Hollywood poops out, with the intention of pleasing everyone...it's the exact opposite. This movie has a target audience, and you'll be 100% sure if you're that target audience, if you can make it past the first five minutes of the movie. If you can't make it past the first five minutes of this movie, I would suggest you go and enjoy some Jersey Shore reruns.

I hope this movie spreads and the world takes note of its message. If we only listened to the message in "Network" we wouldn't even have this film. It a very funny and dark look into American society and if you don't get it, you are the problem. I hope one day I get to see a world where the obvious and shallow no longer rule public opinion. Thank you for not talking or using your phone during the feature.

Well, I just started watching it again... The review upthread that said if you could make it through the first 5 minutes, you were good to go...

I think I'd cut that to 2:45. Not going to tell you what happens, but it's the smile there that just absolutely MAKES the scene.

"Not going to tell you what happens, but it's the smile there that just absolutely MAKES the scene."

To put that on camera...I don't know how they managed to get that past the censors. That is taboo #1 in the USA and pushes all the buttons.

I cannot see many Americans likely that and sitting still for it.

We here are a tiny, tiny fraction of the populace.

Definite cult classic. Before it even hits the theaters.

It's almost an idiocracy prequel, just set in the current time.

Or maybe it would be better called an anti-idiocracy prequel.

There are little influences from all sorts of ****, but it still manages to be original too....

Ben's right though, it's not gonna fly with everybody. But it sure as hell will with the people here.

here's the rotten tomatoes link:

Indeed, its focus is on the betrayal of simple, humanistic values, such as kindness, consideration, and personal responsibility, and it certainly offers an unflattering portrait of contemporary entertainment, that wasteland of valueless depravity. In fact, at a certain point it stops being funny, mostly because you’re either absorbed into the characters’ crusade or repulsed by it, but also because there’s simply too much truth in its story – for good or bad -- to simply take it in as casual, or even purely mean-spirited entertainment.

Cute credits too, in some ways. I love the descriptions of the characters.

Also, the highlighted part...

Just downloaded and watched. As I said in the other thread 20 pages back or so in Fedup, if Frank went after banksters and politicians instead, it would have had more depth and meaning. Great movie, right up there with Idiocracy for social commentary.

I really like how they set the whole tone of the movie before they even show the title (at about three minutes in.)

BTW, to those that have watched it, when frank gets into the box at the beginning of the movie, what is that patch that's there? He's obviously former military - though it's never mentioned (there are dog tags in there too.) I'm just wondering what the patch is.

Okay...just watched the trailer. I'm in. Please, please, PLEASE tell me they hit DC and Wall Street. If they just go around offing Hollywood types (not that this isn't appealing), but I'm going to be really disappointed.

Pika: No, they don't go after walstreet or government. It's against individuals, some hollywood types, some not.

It's really about rudeness.

I doubt they could have gotten it past the censors & distributed if they had made wallstreet & dc the targets.
