If, for the sake of argument, one actually believes this migration trend is actually happening, this is still not necessarily all good news if one of the major drivers for this trend is the state of the economy and reduced job prospects.

To be fair, IMO, one has to acknowledge that some fraction of illegals come to the US primarily in order to avail themselves of work opportunities to better themselves and their families while some fraction come here primarily to leech off the "freebies" that can be obtained from the system. (The size of each of these fractions can be debated but is beyond the scope of the point I want to illustrate.)

If the economy has made it more difficult for these illegals to find employment while the availability of the "freebies" has remained the same or perhaps even increased, the net result will be to bias the composition of the illegal population which remains towards the leeches rather than the workers. Similarly, the attraction for new illegals to enter the country is biased towards those who intend to leech rather than those who intend to work. IMO, it should be obvious to anyone that an increase of the leech/worker ratio is detrimental to taxpayers and the national economy as a whole.

Thus, even if the alleged migration trend is true, that is no reason to become complacent about the illegal situation in general. I am of the belief that reports similar to the one in the OP are encouraged by the open-borders folks in order to promote such complacency among the public.
