I don't believe the numbers. The money spent in California on ER visits for illegals, for ESL education, on illegal incarcerations have all increased in the last couple years - not gone down. And the number of hospital births to illegal mothers in Calfornia have risen too. If illegals were leaving like they claim all those numbers would dive. They haven't. I call BS.

The smart folks are LEAVING before we finish the fence to keep them in... sad... but true... demographics are a bitch.

We have seen a mass migration of blacks back to the South. It would not surprise me if we are seeing a similar return of Mexicans to California. In tough times, racial groups often feel more comfortable with "their own kind" instead of others. Add in the fact that other states are cracking down on illegals and you have a recipe for concentration where the feel safe from the consequences of their criminal activity.

I can't speak for California but here in Georgia the exodus has been very noticeable. Parts of town that used to be thriving with Mexican immigrants are now ghost towns. Lots of small businesses have closed also (taco shops, restaurants.) 10 years ago day laborers used to congregate in various parking lots. I can't recall having seen any for over a year now.

Maybe California has bucked the trend somewhat but I bet Arizona and Nevada haven't. Something else at play here is that the Mexican economy is booming (its all relative but finding a factory job in Mexico has gotten a lot more attainable for many low skilled workers.)

This is a bigger story than the media is letting on, and it has big implications for the US (some good, some bad.) Fewer immigrants means lower household formation and a future more like Spain or the UK.

This maybe true, but it's sad when I immediately have to think that the numbers are bogus.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the recession did more to solve the illegal immigration problem than any legislative or law enforcement solutions.

Which incidentally is why the GOP is a party of morons. By promoting the idiotic housing bubble and policies that basically gave the homebuilders and NAR a full body massage complete with a "happy ending", they laid the groundwork for the most massive influx of illegal labor in history.

There was a mass exodus of hispanics/illegals from my town in 2007-2008 after that county 'crack down' on illegals law was passed and it was very noticeable then. I think the downturn in the economy and the county passing that law was a double shot to them that they said **** it and left. Traffic was fabulous for 9 months. It was great. No trash, no traffic, no lines. They all came back 9 months later this time as renters and haven't left **** since. I agree with noodle these numbers are horse ****. There are more illegals here now than there ever were and traffic is worse than ever. This is some kind of propaganda spin to try and convince people this issue isn't as bad as it is. It is. I'm the ****ing EXPERT on illegals, what they do and whether they have left and they haven't left ****. Lies, all is this supposed 'migration'.

There is no objectivity from media reports on this topic, least of all from NPR which has been hammering into our collective brains that we must have unlimited immigration to do the jobs we refuse to do.

One of the reasons the article is massive BS is because we have not removed ANY of the incentives for them to come here. We even have congressmen backstabbers fighting against e-verify. No, the clues are too numerous to suggest that this article has any credibility whatsoever. Just another brainwashing attempt.

I've seen similar experiences to Zappafan here in the Triangle area of NC. There are still a large # of illegals and all kinds of gang activity but the population has stopped growing and seems to be diminishing. All the areas that used to be populated with illegals are full of for rent signs and empty properties. I can't tell you the last time I saw a taco truck and I used to see several a day at lunch time. Also, I haven't seen a road construction crew of hispanics in at least two years. Maybe one or two but not the whole crew. All anecdotal, I know, but there does seem to be a noticeable change.

After Arizona passed their law AND after the economic boom bust and it was a spectacular boom in construction as the illegals were making huge money as well. The day laborers seemed to have moved on to someplace else WITHIN the US that still provided some sort of sanctuary. They migrated WITHIN the US to another state that still pandered to their presence. I believe Texas was one of those states and of course CA is the premier sanctuary state but there are many others as well.

The only incentive here was construction jobs.

Guy is 100% right. If illegals have left your area then it is for greener pastures somewhere else in the states like the DC area where there are still jobs and homes are going bubble again. They sure as hell aren't heading south to whence they came. Your problem is just becoming someone else's, most likely mine since manassas park welcomes them and their shenanigans with open arms.

Wake me up when a place like Hall County, GA (city of Gainesville) is no longer 33% Mexican. They all work at the chicken processing plants in Hall County, and over in Cumming and up in Canton. If this exodus were true, you would see entire schools empty in those areas. This is not the case at all.

I'm following real estate listings up there and when I see a price that is too good to be true, I know it's in a certain school cluster. Then a quick look at the Google satellite view alwasy shows 4 cars per home (parked on the lawns) and an unusually high number of red colored vehicles. (yes, it's true. My guess is they prefer this color for some reason. You just don't see this in satellite views of all the other neighborhoods I'm checking out)

I also think Gwinnett County (Duluth and Norcross) have heavy illegal populations (and the recent unemployment numbers from that county are well below the metro ATL average). Big gang activity down that way (I-985 up from ATL is a Mexican drug artery with multi-million dollar action, plus the meth labs)

I saw it all when we lived up there for 4 years: gang beat-ins in the local schools; armed guards posted at the high school after older gang members trespassed onto school grounds and were looking for their target in the cafeteria at lunch; residential break-ins by gangs, with the youngest member being 13; gang shootouts in the aforementioned neighborhoods, resulting in 3 dead gang bangers; gangs shooting into the wrong house and barely missing a 2 year old gir. I could go on... It's pretty bad when you move back to Orlando to get away from the gangs!

Anecdotal report....Recruiters for H2A Mexican labor are having a tougher time filling their quota requirements to serve their customer base. Groundwork is now being put in place to begin recruitment of Phillipino laborers. I'd expect this situation ends up with Chinese laborers becoming available under H2A in the near future.

Let my just say that there ARE some benefits to living in that area of GA. You just have to choose carefully and stay away from the areas that have gone 100% Mexican.

Homes are cheap and you get a LOT of home for the money. (plus a basement, finished or unfinished) Property taxes are low and schools are pretty good. 4 seasons (mild, but some would say summers are too hot; coming from FL, it's hot, but not for very long); you can drive to the mountains/ waterfalls/ hiking and you can also easily drive to downtown Atlanta for the zoo, etc. UE is pretty low for the South. Easy commute to Gwinnett County (low UE) and Gainesville UE is only around 7.7%. 25% of jobs in Hall County are "manufacturing" according to the Chamber of Commerce.

New activity in that region includes CAT plant (1,400 jobs coming) and Carter's distribution center (children's wear). Also, a big medical manufacturing plant was announced for just South of there in the Social Circle area. You could also commute to Athens.

So some positives to go along with the negatives. The big risks are (1) are you buying in an area that will be "bad" 10 years from now? (who knows) and (2) water shortages (no plans by state of GA = the big one could hit and cripple/ shut down the region based on the tree ring data (my brother is a hydro-geologist).

I would actually consider moving back up that way IF one of us could get a job (any job) making around $38k. If you avoid the known bad areas, you can get a pretty good thing going.

I think they are all committing crimes so they can go to prison and get free meals, board, education, laundry, medical and dental.
