House committee schedules contempt vote against Holder

CBS News has learned the House Oversight Committee will vote next week on whether to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. It's the fourth time in 30 years that Congress has launched a contempt action against an executive branch member.

On Monday morning, Issa formally announced the committee vote on contempt, set for Wednesday, June 20.

He needs to go to PRISON.

I sincerely doubt that Eric Holder will be given a pass by the Republicans. Holder is a crook and is roundly despised by the Republicans in Texas. His name came up several times during convention speeches in Fort Worth last week. He is overtly corrupt and dangerous and a living, breathing obstruction of justice on two feet. My congressman, Louie Gohmert, has been trying to do what he can to get rid of Eric Holder for months and has been reporting back to the constituents. On Saturday, he spoke to the Texas congressional district 1 delegation and told us that there would finally be a vote on contempt against Holder. Louie was very excited.

Here he is facing off against Holder in a hearing last Thursday.

In case you haven't noticed, Holder is owned by the big banks. Surprise surprise. If you don't believe me research his resume. Therefore he is immune from any prosecution because both the R's and the D's are owned by the big banks as well.

Please find a flaw in my logic, because I would love to see this **** fry.

Lying snake in the grass. We need more leaders like Gohmert. What a telling clip.

It feels like critical mass is building.

I suppose if we really had a 2-party system that this might get legs. Unfortunately we don't. Don't get all excited only to be disappointed. Nothing to see here. Really, there isn't.

Stewart is such a hack... he just did a bit on fast and furious and correctly pointed the GOP double speak on executive power but still didn't smashed Obama, Holder and democrats for protecting the crimes that have been committed.

Stewart is an ******* propagandist.

Oh puh-leeze. Elijah Cummings has tried to provide political cover for Holder in every single one of the House Oversight F&F hearings. His shilling has been next to insufferable.

Dubyah fired his AG, Alberto Gonzales, in part because Republican congressmen insisted that the man had to go. No congressional committee had to file charges. If the Congressional Black Caucus would have found the integrity to tell Obama that Holder was a liability and that they would no longer protect him, maybe things would not have progressed to this point.

Then again, that may be a matter of insisting that Obama fire his own boss.

Jimpad,
He'll step down with fully bennies, go to work for Rahm Emanuel.

Then O will appoint someone even worse.

I predict that for every D that abandons Holder there will be a R that is compromised (pics diddling a kid, threats, campaign fraud exposure) and will roll over like a puppy wanting its tummy scratched.

Black lawmakers plan walkout during contempt vote

By JONATHAN ALLEN |
6/27/12 6:05 PM EDT

The Congressional Black Caucus plans to walk off the House floor during tomorrow’s votes to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress, according to a letter being circulated among members of Congress.

“We adamantly oppose this partisan attack and refuse to participate in any vote that would tarnish the image of Congress or of an attorney general who has done nothing but work tirelessly to protect the rights of the American people. We must reflect upon why we are elected to this body and choose now to stand up for justice,” the CBC members wrote in a copy of the letter obtained by POLITICO. “ We call upon all members of Congress to stand with us during a press conference on the Capitol Building steps during this appalling series of votes to discuss our nation's most significant priority--creating jobs. At this critically important time in our nation, we must work as colleagues rather than political enemies.”

In particular, CBC members are hoping to garner support for their move from members of other minority and liberal groups, including Hispanics, Asians and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

“Instead of focusing on job creation and other critical issues before this Congress, we have been asked to engage in a political stunt on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. Our constituents elected us to do real work, not to engage in meaningless partisan activity,” they wrote.

Arizona gun laws do not prevent the purchase of multiple guns, require no waiting periods, and allow the resale of weapons. Under the law, the ATF agents had to prove that the guns were purchased with the intent to commit a crime.

Uh, that's all straight up 2A and has nothing to do with the state of AZ.

So now what? I'm quite sure they didn't escort him to a cell in orange PJs and shackles.

On the day in which the U.S. House of Representatives has determined that Attorney General Eric Holder’s actions are egregious enough to warrant a criminal contempt vote, the AG has skipped town and headed to … Disneyworld.

The criminal contempt charge refers the dispute to District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen, who will decide whether to file charges against Holder. Most legal analysts do not expect Machen -- an Obama appointee who ultimately answers to Holder -- to take any action.

The civil measure allows the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to file a lawsuit asking the courts to examine the Justice Department's failure to produce certain subpoenaed documents, as well as the validity of the administration's recent assertion of executive privilege over the documents in question.

Legal experts contacted by CNN have said, based on recent precedent, that it could take years for the courts to reach any final decision in the civil case.
So... no punishment.

"So... no punishment"

No one who has frequented these boards for any length of time should expect Holder to get any meaningful punishment. He'll skate like those before him. Club members are protected - by both friends AND foe within the political ranks. Have you heard any Republicans screaming for Corzine's hide lately? Don't get distracted with idle palaver. Concentrate on the final outcome. The biggest threat to any politician is a long memory. One of their most valued occupational tools is the art of distraction.
