As soon as someone brought up the shooting this morning at work, I busted out (before any of the libtarded folks here could say something) "Just think if ONE person had been carrying concealed - they could have stopped that idiot dead in his tracks - pun intended."

A couple shook their heads but held their tongues, knowing they'd lose the argument. Another who's financially conservative but socially liberal (basically the only reason this guy supports Obama is because they share a skin pigment) said "That's true. You're right."

Then he followed it up (to keep his rep with his peeps) with "Frat wants the Wild West."

"No. No, I just want to enjoy my time with my family, and if some other ******* thinks he's going to hurt us without penalty, he's mistaken." The conversation ended there.

All the theaters around here have signs banning guns from the theater. If only this theater had a sign like that... {/sarc}

My prayers go out to those injured/killed/etc.

Seriously. What's even more astounding is that these books were written a number of years ago. Keep THAT in the back of your mind when you read them.

Mpilar - Enemies Foreign & Domestic is the first in a Trilogy. However, the first book specifically features a scenario that is sooo close to this, that it literally was like the author saw into the future and wrote it all down. And if that's not enough, wait until you read what the author has coming next. THAT'S what is really creepy (and horrifying).

Yes, Pika, been trumpeting that series here for awhile - glad you read them. They are truly amazing, as they predict what's been happening (e.g. the civilian drones), and, I suspect, what's about to happen.

Down - As being discussed in the Bar thread....I'm a good shooter, but it would be damn hard to get a clean shot off in a theatre. The guy was also wearing Kevlar. Handgun vs. semi-auto rifle and grenades...not good odds.

That being said, I do agree with your statement. Just not sure a CCW would have helped in this situation - unless the carrier could have gotten a clean shot. In a dark, crowded theatre against a guy armed to the teeth....not good odds unless at some point he was backlit and had no one else behind/next to him.

Was it YOU that got me into the Matthew Bracken series? If so, I thank you. I'm using it as a blue print now. I'm not kidding. I thought I was prepared...until I read those books. There was SO much that I didn't consider...and those things are now being addressed.

Jota - Yes and no. It's far, far beyond that.

Spazz - Point taken...but no; the books are NOT about an isolated incident. It's the whole world-wide scenario. It puts every other book about 'end of the world' or 'apocalypse' to shame. It's lies, fraud, corruption and capture of governments; it's economics, police state, manipulation, and control and how they all occur without people knowing it until it is too late. It's an in-depth study of how propaganda works as well.

The really scary part is that since the books were written a number of years ago, when MUCH of what we face now was not either in evidence or had occurred yet, reading them at this juncture in time, makes the books now pre-vetted for accuracy and their plausibility is now unquestionable and beyond reproach. The accuracy is uncanny. If I'd have read these books when they first came out, I'd have been thinking, "Oh, could never happen." Now they've already been proved prophetic.

They truly are the most stunning example of "yesterday's tinfoil is today's breaking news.'

I'm surprised no one has pointed it out yet, but you first find cover in a situation like this. Running for the exit is a bad idea.
