ONLY 3-4%?

I really doubt it'll be that low.

It's going to be much higher than that, I'm already seeing price increases across the board here in the Hartford area.

That's probably a high estimate if corn comes back down with next year's crop, but certainly possible. I don't think the typical grocery chain or food producer has that kind of pricing power and many commodity costs (for producers/retailer) have finally gone down in the last year or so (eg: coffee). Until this corn drought happened, I actually thought we could print a deflationary #.

How can anyone say this with a straight face.

I think we have seen this much in the last 3 months.

Wait till the effects of the drought work through the system.

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ...why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

It's going up here too in Wichita. Bacon, even the cheap Bar-S stuff is over 4.00 a pound when earlier in the year it was maybe 2.00. Brand name items seem to be going up faster than generic or store brand. For example, Philly cream cheese, which was 89 cents in January is now roughly 1.59. Kraft Mac and Cheese is over 1.35, etc. I figure if the USDA says 3 to 4%, it will be 13 to 14%. Fortunately, I have been buying roasts and chicken breast when there is a good sale and I can some and freeze some. The only place I can get food cheaper is at the base commissary and even then ground beef has gone up there.

Short-term there will be some decrease in beef and pork as slaughter increases (can't feed 'em, may as well sell 'em and get the meat value)

However, corn and wheat-based products will go up in price right away, as will dairy, eggs and similar -- and they are. Intermediate term poultry, pork and beef are going UP.

3-4% my ass -- maybe per month!

Yeah - I'm thinking that is conservative. And more QE would just blast the populace with stagflation.
