Earnings forecast miss according to NNI.

Note that Olympus, however, is up 7% -- apparently a merger proposal tendered to them this evening.

Karl, I never tried the magic lantern software. How'd that work out for you?

On topic, I can't see many people buying good cameras anymore. We are in a depression and everybodys using those cameras in their phones. I was in Colonial Williamsburg this weekend with all my camera gear and hardly saw anyone else with a real camera around.

Niti, I love it. It's not tranformative per-se but it puts things that should have been there in the camera in the first place where you can easily get to them.

If all you want to do is share picts on fb or some other website, do you really need a good camera with good optics?

I say nope. It's way over kill especially when most screens are still less then 100 ppi

Maybe I'll try it on my old Rebel. I'm currently about to CM9 on my HP touchpad, that looks promising at this point.

Canon should do a better job with the video aspects of these DSLRs. I know the don't want to cannibalize there video camera business, but let's face it, they have a great line of lenses and if the guy from Oakley sunglasses can start a video camera company from scratch, the Red cameras, then Canon should be able to do more for the prosumer.

Low, true.

Niti, you wouldn't believe what the my 60D can do in video mode, especially with M/L. The only real shortcoming is that it doesn't have a way to handle autofocus when shooting video in a competent fashion, but that's mostly something that (1) for a real prosumer you don't want it, and (2) if you have it you better get it right, because if it's wrong it's REALLY awful.

The quality of video the 60D shoots is simply unbelievable; it's very, very close to a Red One and a HELL of a lot less money.

I don't know if you're aware of this but "Act of Valor" was shot on 5Ds.

Sounds interesting, I should google before post, but I thought sound isn't that great. I'll look into that, and I really want 24P also. I'm still using a Panasonic DVX100, but it isn't HD and I want HD. Have to be able to justify any purchase with the wife, or she will hound my endless about new kitchen cabinets. I have no issue buying a 5D if I can get it to do what I want, but I can wait till I can't!

I will say though the newer semi compact camera with switchable lenses do look intriguing. You used to have to spend a lot more for that feature.

Niti: The built-in microphone sucks. However, it has a jack..... (and I have a nice little Tascam stereo setup that, with an adapter, goes right on the hotshoe and plugs into the jack, solving that problem quite nicely.)

Canon spent a boat load to put up a new headquarters here on Long Island. It's not complete yet, but has kept my brother's company in business for some time now. The building is just about ready...only a few months left.

I love photography. Have always loved it since I dreamed about my 1rst SLR in grade school. I was happy to switch to digital and love my Canon and have a few prime lenses. That being said, an AF lens went bad a month or so back. I look at the cost of repairing or replacing it and looked at my wish list of lenses...and after a good deal of thought I came to the conscious decision of investing more time with my iphone camera. I love my iphone camera more than my DSLR because it is with me ALL THE TIME
