Am I the only one experiencing lots of problems lately with Yahoo email? Now it's having an outage. I've noticed that their release management process must really suck. That's what happens when software companies try to do too much and shortchange having effective processes. They get burned.

Mine is out as well - I wonder if the blackout in India has something to do with this? Someone spilled a giant pot of chicken vendelu in a grid server?

People still use Yahoo email? I gave up on them 5 years ago when they were completely and utterly incapable of solving their spam issues.

Edit: And they wanted to charge me for spam blocking

Their spam blockers work great for me. I probably get 2 or 3 spam emails a month.

My yahoo seems fine.

Their spam filter works well as far as I'm concerned. No charge.

I've had it for over 8 years. Go figure

I'm willing to listen if someone has a better email service provider than Yahoo (and cannot be Google).

Just checked my Y! mail for the first time in several years.

There are ~3800 spam messages in my inbox. Only ~1800 in the spam filter.
No thanks.

They probably took it down to install gmail, given the new CEO and all.

Till '07 I had a business hosting plan with yahoo; spam up the ass - 30-40 a day - right into the inbox. I have an old free personal account that never received but a handful delivered to the spam box.

This is their business model way of saying - fuk you business users - pay for spam filters. I have since learned to run my own postfix/sendmail w spamassasin etc. For what that is worth, I dunno. shrugs

There was a long period of time where spam protection was only included in the paid "Yahoo Mail+" account. The free account was basically a spam magnet.

I have a free account with yahoo and I never get spam. Some crook from Argentina hacked it the other day though:( I thought I had a good password too. So I changed it and couldn't remember what I changed it to cuz I made it too hard to remember..lol

Do people actually hack email accounts by guessing passwords?

It has to be someone keylogging or phishing, no?

Mrbill: Yea, there are people just "guessing" passwords.

For 3/4 of more people, it's a fast dictionary attack with common words and names of people they know... along with birthdates and SS#'s.

At one time I was running a... Well, doesn't matter what it was, but about 130-150 people who were VERY computer knowledgeable, and I was the only one with the ability to change their password... so I got to see everybody's plaintext

It disappointed the **** out of me how stupid, simple and easy to guess many of them were.

Hmm no wonder I have not gotten spam from boohoo's servers lately. Someone had found a way to do this via an android app of some sort I think. Had to black list them for a while.

Wow, I've had yahoo free email for years & never had a spam problem. One very small problem I've recently had (started about 6 weeks ago), is that instead of being automatically deleted, spam goes into my spam folder & is visible. I've contacted Yahoo about it & they say they are working on it; right. I think it deletes out of the spam folder in 24 hours...but my compulsive side won't let it sit there that long.

By the way, I didn't have any mail problems yesterday.

No Yahoo email problems for me either yesterday.

I have used Yahoo mail almost exclusively for over 12 years.

The spam filter works pretty well, with maybe 1-2 spams hitting my inbox every month. I review the span folder every day for a legit message, then clear out the folder. Maybe one legit message hits the spam folder every 2 months.

Works well for free.

You ARE aware that you have to take an ACTIVE role in the spam filter and train it, right?
