New orders for manufactured durable goods in June, up two consecutive months, increased $2.9 billion or 1.3 percent to $220.7 billion, revised from the previously published 1.6 percent increase. This followed a 1.5 percent May increase.
Transportation equipment, up four of the last five months, had the largest increase, $5.1 billion or 8.0 percent to $68.7 billion.
New orders for manufactured nondurable goods, decreased $5.0 billion or 2.0 percent to $245.1 billion.
Shipments
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in June, down following three consecutive monthly increases, decreased $0.3 billion or 0.1 percent to $224.8 billion, revised from the previously published 0.1 percent increase. This followed a 1.1 percent May increase.
Transportation equipment, also down following three consecutive monthly increases, had the largest decrease, $0.7 billion or 1.1 percent to $64.2 billion.
Shipments of manufactured nondurable goods, down four consecutive months, decreased $5.0 billion or 2.0 percent to $245.1 billion. This followed a 0.4 percent May decrease. Petroleum and coal products, also down four consecutive months, led the decrease, down $2.0 billion or 2.9 percent to $67.3 billion.
Unfilled Orders
Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in June, up following two consecutive monthly decreases, increased $3.4 billion or 0.3 percent to $988.1 billion, revised from the previously published 0.4 percent increase. This followed a slight May decrease.
Transportation equipment, up following three consecutive monthly decreases, had the largest increase, $4.5 billion or 0.8 percent to $568.6 billion.
Inventories
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in June, up twenty-nine of the last thirty months, increased $1.6 billion or 0.4 percent to $367.2 billion, revised from the previously published 0.3 percent increase. This was at the highest level since the series was first published on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 0.4 percent May increase.
Transportation equipment, also up twenty-nine of the last thirty months, had the largest increase, 0.9 billion or 0.8 percent to $108.9 billion.
Inventories of manufactured nondurable goods, down four consecutive months, decreased $1.2 billion or 0.5 percent to $238.2 billion. This followed a 1.0 percent May decrease. Petroleum and coal products, also down four consecutive months, led the decrease, down $1.2 billion or 2.3 percent to $51.1 billion.
By stage of fabrication, June materials and supplies decreased 0.1 percent in durable goods and a slight decrease in nondurable goods. Work in process increased 0.7 percent in durable goods and decreased 1.8 percent in nondurable goods. Finished goods increased 0.6 percent in durable goods and decreased 0.4 percent in nondurable goods.
