Egypt 'Refusing All Contact With Israel' Post-Government Shakeup

With a large Egyptian military buildup ongoing on the Sinai Peninsula, and coup-like consolidation of power to the Muslim Brotherhood over the weekend, Egypt is now refusing to speak to Israel. After last week’s attack on the Israeli border by Islamist militants operating out of the Sinai, Israel agreed to ease the restrictions of the 1979 peace treaty on Egyptian military operations in the Sinai, hoping Egypt would be able to bring the increasing lawlessness on the peninsula under control.

"It is too early to say what will happen because everything is evolving in Egypt, but we are following what is happening there with great concern", said an Israeli government official. "Military cooperation is more necessary than ever to re-establish order along the border and in Sinai. The new leadership in the Egyptian army knows that, but the question is what does the Egyptian leadership want? This question has not yet been answered because the new Egyptian government is refusing all contact with Israel".

Maybe Karl could start a pinned Egypt thread??

In all the fray with Iran the past few years I've been saying that a well armed Egypt at their border is a bigger threat to Israel than Iran is... But hey that's their business I suppose.

Egypt has always been the home of serious and conservative Islamic jurisprudence throughout history - however quite a few of the radical Imams that started some of the troubles in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Countries were trained in Egypt in more recent times but their Mubarak kept a short leash on the schools for the most part.

Since then, several of these radicals have fled Saudi/Yemen/etc. and are now living a life of luxury in the UK or Germany or France on tax payer expense as 'political asylum' seekers: they are given a house, an allowance and are allowed to visit mosques everyday. The EU Human Rights Act doesn't allow for them to be deported back to Saudi/Yemen/etc where they will be imprisoned and moderated.

What is happening in Egypt is a much larger issue than many in the west appreciate. The dismissal of the various heads in the military happened much, much quicker than most thought! http://www.voanews.com/content/islamic_s....

As for Egypt and Israel - the short term issues - man, who really knows anymore but I think the Israelis will know to keep their powder dry for dealing with Iran. woof.

And to think that there were thriving Jewish communities in Egypt for nearly 2000 years.

Egypt has a problem in that the destruction of just 1 dam sets a huge part of their country back to the stone age.

Check and mate.
If Egypt is stupid enough to mess with Israel again, they WILL pay a price.
No Nukes needed.

"Obama should send more aid to egypt."

Let me fix that.

"Romney or Obama will borrow more money to send to Egypt and Israel."

More like:

"Romney or Obama will borrow more money printed into existence by Bernanke to send to Egypt and Israel."
