Assuming for the moment that he somehow manages to get to Ecuador.

How long do you think he'd ever survive THERE?

Unless he's got an ace up his sleeve that the US doesn't want released, he's done for.

The United States does not believe in diplomatic asylum? I seem to recall during the cold war Russians getting into the US embassy over there and claiming asylum.

He could live a decent life in Ecuador. He'd probably be treated as a folk hero.

Of course the CIA could try to kidnap him or just take him out with a drone strike. But as Genesis pointed out there would be repercussions for that. Some of which you might not enjoy, like being unable to travel anywhere in Latin America if you are a US citizen without fear of reprisal attacks or kidnappings.

Crapping all over a sovereign nation does have its' consequences.

CNN.com Live says... no live events scheduled today. So I guess it's the Reuters link above.

British newspapers, quoting Scotland Yard, say the watch is costing $80,000 a day, at a time when the London police force is under orders to cut 20 percent of its budget as part of the government’s austerity drive

I wonder if they're going to ask Ecuador to pay this, just as they were trying to squeeze bankrupt-Iceland into paying for the lost deposits from greedy interest-chasing British depositors...

No one likes bullies, and lately the UK gov. does have a renewed knack for bullying smaller countries...

After Ecuador's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino finished reading the final declaration from the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) summit, he joined hands with his fellow foreign ministers and raised them aloft.

The BBC's Will Grant said it was a symbolic but important show of unity in a region which considers the UK government's approach over Mr Assange to have been colonialist and threatening.
Quote:
But the last point of agreement in the Unasur document called for calm, urging the parties involved to "continue the dialogue and negotiation to find a mutually acceptable solution".

Damn, that is a small consulate though. There isn't even a garden to take a walk or a pee in.

The more I think of this, the more perverse the UK legal course appears to have become. I am not a fan of Assange at all. In fact, I think he has been way out of his league for sometime though I do accept that he has a weakness for the fair maidens. He seems to have fallen for a classic honey trap after a couple of 'adoring' fans asked him to show him the real wiki.

Needless to say, neither would be candidates for the Not the worst B-Thread but that is proving to be some expensive tail for him! Woof Woof.

Dogfarm says if you are in exotic, far off countries from home doing things that may not be looked well upon by courts of law to always be wary of women who throw themselves at you pro bono because nothing in life is free! woof woof.

Well, perhaps he can find a nice Ecuadorian or Colombian secretary to help him with dictation. Woof. Woof.

These days I can't tell if the government would consider that (the inability of ordinary citizens to travel in Latin America) a defect or a feature. Fewer places to hide...

If the CIA were clever, they'd silently abduct him, take him out, then dump his body deep in the jungle ... never to be seen or heard from again.

He would just "vanish".
