The rising inventory of unsold Volts might be becoming a problem...

GM expected to suspend Chevy Volt production over slow sales

General Motors is halting, for a month, the manufacture of its well-known but seldom-sold Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car, according to trade publication Automotive News.

It would be the second interruption in production for the Volt, which can go 38 miles on battery power before needing a recharge from its gasoline engine or via a plug-in.

According to the Automotive News: "General Motors plans to idle the plant where it assembles the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid for four weeks starting next month, two people familiar with the plans said."

Maybe We should make Our own commercial since the ones that the Corporation makes doesn't seem to help Us sell these things...

Maybe Obama should pass a law requiring people to buy them.

I saw a Chevy Volt at Rudy's in Austin several months ago. What struck me was the sheer size of the thing. It felt like I was looking at a GT-R! Certainly a lot bigger than I imagined.

Oh, and the owner had some douchebag plate on it like "VOLT 4U" or something stupid like that. Made me chuckle that someone would advertise their stupidity so openly.

Can't wait for the next Volt commercial. "I really love my Chevy Volt because... it's production has been discontinued."

One thing bugs me about the battery powered fleet. The secondary industry ie junk yards/ salvaged car sellers/ used car lots. These batteries have no shelf life. The turnover on new cars is too long for these batteries. So any junk yard or used car dealer that picks up one is going to get its pants pulled down. Or worse burn your shop down. In that light my view is these are just more toxic technology. Not only are these bad for dealers and consumers. The entire industry will be badly hurt. How are the courts going to handle the battery failures that will happen. Who eats the battery after its driven home and craps out. Or sets a home on fire? Load test a 6 hundred pound battery? I will pass on that job thanks.

Well maybe its not juts one thing that bugs me about them.

I got so tired of explaining to greenie idiots that just because it's electric doesn't mean it's "green". They were speechless when I bought up the point that when you plug it in you're tethered to what ever power source happens do make your local energy.

The Greenies are clueless. Just ask if they understand cradle to the grave. The battery is the problem. The ones for cars are huge****inmungus. At peak we were building like 19 million cars and trucks. Say we sell 1 million cars with them batts. Each car lasts 3 years if we are lucky 2 batteries per car. We have yet to see the actual costs of these batteries. We dont have a legal way to handle them or store them or recycle them. These are exempt from the rules that would be put on any peon. I cant see a way to build a recycling plant safely/eco/$$.

Road use tax is added to my fuel costs.hummmm
If you drive a volt your a tax cheat?

It's really easy to see why they're losing to the competition:
"Volt" vs. "Leaf"
Rent-a-car look vs. smooth golf-cart look
Garbage waste of money vs. quality waste of money
