Oh Karl if all Republicans were as truly dedicated to conservative principles instead of conservative personalities I might abandon my independent label and join.

As it is, our Dear Leader has only ten months left in office, hardly enough time for Congress to commemorate apple pie much less begin, conduct and conclude impeachment proceedings. The "conservative" party, far from sharing our anger at the violation of law and principles, would rally behind the man, glad finally to be on the side of the righteous underdog, while the other party would be accused daily of trying to destroy America with partisan politics.

Unless he is found in bed with a dead girl or a live boy (to quote Edwin Edwards) there is no crime this man can commit that would hasten the day of his departure. And even if there were, his substitute is hardly a hero of openness and plain dealing.

On the other hand -- this could make fantastic fodder for the presidential candidates, which would keep it in the public eye and magnify our outrage a million times over.

And what of Joe Lewis? If the US Executive can be shown to have acted illegally won't he be on top of that like a Rottweiler on a pork chop?

I think impeachment is a lost cause, sadly, but I feel sure nevertheless that things will not go well for the Executive between now and January 20.

I am hearing on various news/business media outlets that investors are questioning the "30 Billion dollar gift" Bernanke and company gave to J.P.Morgan. Many have quoted Chistopher Cox as saying that Bearn Stearns could have been saved without the loan. Just heard Kudlow on a radio program that he and the talk show host were both against the 30 Billion dollar fed loan.

I also heard on Friday night, that the Feds have not released the funds to J.P.Morgan yet. Question....When do the feds release the money.... I assume when the deal goes through in the 3 quarter as previously announced?

The Republicans lost it when they got the White House and were the majority party in Congress and the Senate to boot. All their attention turned to re-districting, etc.. under Delay to retain power.

When Gingrich swept to power when Clinton was President... that was a beautiful thing. They were bar none the most effective Congress I have ever been alive to witness. The Contract With America, the recission bill, welfare reform, and a balanced budget!! I wish they could have gotten the Balanced Budget Amendment passed while they had momentum.

PS: A Chapter 11 would have exposed a lot of the **** to the light of day, caused a big selloff (but probably not a crash) and ultimately led to the unwinding of the insane cross-swap crap that threatens the system.

The Fed's job is to regulate and supervise BANKS. Bear Stearns is not a "Bank" under the legal definition (no, an "investment bank" is not a bank, go do some reading) and they had no business interfering directly.

Facilitating private firms intervening, perhaps. But getting directly involved with a $30 billion "PUT"? Absolutely not - that's beyond their legal authority.

Why do you think Bush got involved if The Fed was comfortable that they were doing everything within their KNOWN boundaries?

I believe Bernanke and company knew they were breaking the law, which might also be why they had one "can't be found" governor..... perhaps he was unwilling to sign on to something he also knew was wrong?
