"Breaking" is intended for BREAKING ACTUAL NEWS.

Examples of things that ARE breaking news:

• A terrorist just flew a plane into a building.
  
• Frobozz Lender just filed Chapter 11!

Examples of things that ARE NOT "Breaking News"

• I lost $20,000 today! (Crying in your beer goes in "The Bar")
  
• Frobozz filed bankruptcy (three days ago)
  
• I think I'm important and you're not (Off-topic - if you're lucky)
  
• Look at the DOW roll over! (maybe ok for General, but definitely not "breaking news" - anyone can see that who's looking)
  
• How'd they pump that ****? (Not news at all - its a question!)
  
• POLITICAL material, even if breaking, UNLESS it has a STRONG connection to the Capital Markets. If you judge wrong on this and do not put it in Politics (if it's open) you will draw a minimum 1 month restriction on posting in BREAKING.
  
• Denninger is an ******* (The Bilge - oops, you can't post there. Go read the Terms of Service.)
  
• ANYTHING published by ANY of the tinfoil mad-hatters, no matter what it is. LaRouche is one of these but is NOT the only member of the club. If it came off some wild socialist, communist, leftist, hard-rightist, Islamofascist or tabloid web site, it does not belong here.
  

Further, BEFORE YOU POST HERE you are EXPECTED to look at the threads already in here and NOT post duplicates, as well as use the SEARCH function to see if it was posted SOMEWHERE ELSE. If it IS somewhere else on the forum it does not belong here irrespective of how "breaking" you think it might be.

If your "breaking news" happened more than 12-24 hours ago, you can rest assured that its neither breaking nor are you likely to be the first person to post it here IF it is on topic in the first place.

Additionally, partisan snipes of any sort, namecalling and other examples of boorish behavior in this area may result in your posts being bilged at my sole discretion.

If you are not judicious with your use of "Breaking", you will get restricted from posting in here and you may be banned from the forum entirely. Such restrictions will come without warning and they are permanent.

Why am I being a pain in the ass about this? Because "Breaking" is for breaking news, and a lot of people have it on RSS feed readers. When you post crap in here you pollute thousands of other people's computers.

That's unreasonable and its unfair.

There is now a forum for queries or reports of unusual price or volume movement in stocks, options, and currencies - THIS IS NOT IT! This is for BREAKING NEWS RELEASES.

Note that all BREAKING items are automatically moved to the "not so breaking" forum after 24 hours. You cannot START threads in there, but you can follow up to them if you have a silver or gold star.

READ THE TOS AVAILABLE IN THE FAQ LINK ABOVE BEFORE YOU POST, AND HONOR BOTH IT AND THIS PINNED TOPIC IN LETTER AND SPIRIT; IF YOU GO LOOKING FOR WHERE THE "LINE" IS YOU ARE ALMOST CERTAIN TO FIND YOURSELF ON THE WRONG SIDE OF IT.
