Because hubby has been out of town for a while I haven't opened my mail for about 5 days. So, today, I'm opening mail and it seems that every bank credit card I have (yes, I have a few) has sent low or 0 interest rate offers.

These cards vary wildly in use:
1. credit card for kid in college - used frequently - monthly balance $300.00 (Chase)
2. credfit card for kid in High School - minimally used - iTunes, some retail - monthly balance about $50.00 (Bank of America)
3. card I use for everyday purchases - monthly balance about $2500.00 (CapitalOne)
4. other card for recurring purchase that I was too lazy to transfer to CapitalOne - monthly balance about $25.00 (Citi)
5. other cards that I don't use but haven't closed

I'm thinking that these banks are trying to get consumers to take these offers knowing full well that the worst is yet to come and that when these offers expire (or they pay late or default)they'll be able to charge 29% because people with balances cannot pay them off.

As it appears that the new Obama-esque credit card rate restrictions will not take place soon the banks will have everyone all signed up in advance.

My question: did you all get a surge of offers recently??

Have not had nearly as many of the "preapproved" card offers in the mail the last 6 months. Have not gotten any the last week.

I only have two CC's though, a Visa and AmX.

We requested twice in writing to Amex to stop sending us literature. On the third time we invoiced Amex for time spent collecting the mail, opening and reading it. That was 2 months ago and we have received nothing from them including non-payment of the 30 day invoice.
