The assumption that "the rest of the world will fare better" is IMHO fallacious.

Assuming the entire world economy collapses right now. Who is in better condition to recover? Who has the factories? Who has the means of industrial production? Who has the natural resources? Who has the food?

Everyone may suffer. Ever country's economy may collapse, but who has the means to recover?

Think about it that way.
