That sale is a drop in the bucket of their capitalization. For most commercial banks, capital is comprised of demand deposits, and CD's which are usually 5 years or less.

In a hyperinflationary environment, no one would buy such a bond.

Hyperinflation is ruinous to banks, and if you can't see that, you need to go back to Econ 101.
