All, I live a a pretty small town (16k) so observations from specific location are not a big deal (IMHO). However, yesterday I had occasion to travel up near Tulsa. Actually, I was in a gentrified bedroom-community outside of Tulsa (called Owasso). This spot has had a massive buildout over the last 5 years of the sort we've all seen. A positive mountain of brand new big-box stores has been put in (Target, Lowes, Home Depot, BBY, Pier 1, Walmart, on-and-on-and-on w/ all the smaller stores too) along w/ all of the accompanying Eating Establishments. Anyway, we were there a 5:30 on Saturday evening ... ought to be prime time for these eating establishments. We were at a Fuddruckers. Anyway, the place was only about 10% occupied. It was amazing. There were more employees than tables occupied by a long shot. Driving back out I took note of the cars in the lots of the other eating places and for the most part they all looked as thin as the lot at Fuddruckers. A know this is just one anecdote from one spot - but considering the time of year and the time of day and the location I was blown away. | |||
