I was at several malls in my area yesterday. Had my niece's 2nd birthday at the Parks Mall in Arlington, Texas. They have a wonderful carousel that the kids just love and the part of the mall where that is located aslo contains a skating rink and a megaplex theater. Fairly busy around lunch but not much traffic at the food court. Slow traffic for this time of year in the shopping areas. Looks like folks are still spending some on entertainment as a reasonably-priced luxury but big retail purchases are clearly down - even in an area that is benefitting from high energy prices and tons of new E&P activity for natgas.

Was also at Hulen Mall in south Fort Worth and that place had a similar feel. Somewhat slow for this time of year but not as disastrous as what many here are seeing in other areas. In both malls, the bag to shopper ratio was about 0.4, with only about a quarter carrying and an average of 1.5 bags for them.
