1990: long before peak oil. Home prices were slightly elevated w.r.t. incomes by Case Shiller indices, the only honest index worth a damn. Emergence of Chinese industry was globally deflationary. Cold War ending. Communism discredited. Islamism limited to Iran, which appeared to be moderating. 2007: at peak oil. China surging, and increasing massive demand is turning globally inflationary for essential commodities. Home prices are much more inflated versus incomes. Much more mortgage fraud & overextension. Many warm wars starting. US doing very badly at them. Leninism-Capitalism (Russia, China) and Communism (Venezuela) and Islamism resurgent. USA discredited. 2007-12-02 14:52:31
