Banks do NOT make money on foreclosures. Good grief. Those little pieces of collateral are deflating pieces of crap. They are **** sandwiches in physical form. Housing values will NOT be increasing in the foreseeable future. Anything they can think of at this point, MUST take this into account. PERIOD. Or it will not work in any way, shape or form. However, keeping people in houses - i.e. at least keeping the so called, 'asset' from being even a bigger liability than it already is, does make some sense. NOT from a balance-sheet standpoint, but from a practical standpoint. If people end up at least having a place to live, they have a shot at continuing to be somewhat productive. It is my understnding the banks and lenders came to this conclusion far too late during the Great Depression. In the end, it was better to at least have the homes occupied and that is what happened. 2007-12-02 15:05:54
