How about CME? As in:

Quote:
Clearly, the PPT was active today. They took 1D Repos from the Fed to "jump start" the equities by buying the S&P futures (using Goldman on the CME, of course).

Also, how about BIX and BKX.

Would someone tell me what VIX is and perhaps add it to the acronyms list?

VIX is the CBOE Volatility Index. You can read more about it (probably more than you want to know) here: http://www.cboe.com/micro/vix/vixwhite.p....
I'll add VIX to the list when I get a few minutes...

Also, what are short straddles? Discussed here:

Here's a blurb on short straddles:
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/shor....

I'm not sure I want to go down the road of adding all of the flavors of multi-leg options to the glossary, even though the naming gets rather colorful and entertaining. Multi-leg options deserve their own article; they're just a little too complex for one-line descriptions (unless you really understand how they work, in which case you don't need the one-line description in the first place!)

I've seen this one in the posts lately, but it took about 20 times before anyone put a name to it. Is this even right? Anyone have a good description?

I'll leave the gory details to one of our more fervent hockey fanatics, but "stick save" is a hockey term that refers to a desperation (or lucky) move that results in the unlikely feat of deflecting an oncoming puck with the hockey stick, as illustrated here:

inline

It is used on TickerForum to describe the just-in-time jawboning, leaks, "news" items, and other market-influencing events that appear to be perpetuated by the PTB to prop up the market.

I'm a newbie to the Market Ticker environment and I have been skulking around trying get the sense of the place.
I hope that I'm correct in assuming that this thread is is the place to learn the terms of language of trading.
I love the humor ! In the past Following Bill O'Neil's investing methods did very well. But it does not work well for me in this market. I want to give day trading a try. currently working to learn the jargon. and methodolgy

Hi OldDog, and (unofficial) welcome. I'm in about the same position as you. There is a lot of good advice on this forum. Read a lot, remember what you learn. May I suggest the TOS (Think or Swim) section. TOS has an option where one can do paper trades so one does not deplete ones funds whilst learning.
Have a great weekend!
