We are finally starting to see the banking industry's full response to the regulations that Washington put on them with the Credit Card reform act. The banks will be getting their "revenue" back, and in the end the only loser was us, the American people.

I have a 2nd account with Chase that just got hit with a service fee so I'll be closing it either today or monday. I love how the article says that they understand they'll lose a good amount of customers but just don't care.

Just received letter from Compass that starting 3/25/11, they will charge $8.95/ month to have a checking acct. I am switching to a credit union that is free for now. It is a pain since all my online stuff is through Compass but I am not paying that fee.

I finally took the red pill. I have a lot of catching up to do. Please excuse my ignorance.

The last time (ten years ago) my bank pulled that junk on me I started my own little PR campaign to turn it around. (and yes, it worked!)

--I sent a large font italic letter (wanted to appear a little old and cranky, and figured most of the old board members didn't have great eyesight :-) ) to each member of the board of directors. I told them they were alienating their long-time customers like me, and that they needed to replace the executives who made the bad decision. I also gave them a lecture on why activist boards were critical to avoid future Enrons, etc etc

--Then I sent a detailed letter (with a copy of the board email) to the local "alternative press" asking them to do further research and publish an article about it. (One of them did no research and just rehashed everything I told them in an article!)

Bottom line--sometimes they have to feel the heat to see the light!

what bank did you send the letter to?

Somehow I doubt Chase or Bank of America's board would ever get it.
