Hi All,

How the weekly option settlement price is decided, and on what time during the last day of the week?

TX in advance!

Roy

Typically it is the closing bell on the cash market Friday.

Beware of pin risk.

SPY and maybe some others (though I'm not aware of any others) are decided at 16:15 est instead of 16:00 est.

That's the risk of you thinking you won't get forcibly exercised (or assigned) but then at the bell you trade through the strike and suddenly you're exposed to clear the trade on the underlying. If you can't clear that trade you're in deep **** as you'll get an immediate margin call.

There is also gap risk on the re-open Monday to deal with as well (if you do get exercised or assigned)

If you have no intention of exercising them, you can call your broker and tell them that, even if they're in the money, do not exercise.

I have to do that quite often due to having a small account that would be blown to **** at times if I got exercised.
