Yesterday, Art (on SB) warned of a "geopolitical event" on August 22nd. What's the latest on this ?

the link gates posted will explain it.

this date came up back in 2006 during the israel/hezbollah conflict.

something about how the iranian rat believes that the "mahdi" will return to the earth after a period of chaos is brought upon the earth. some believe he would like to be the one to personally usher in this chaos by starting a conflict with israel and thus the entire western world.

Ure and the linquistics "timemonks" have talked up the 22nd for months as being the catalyst. His stance is that whatever will happen that day may not be obvious on that day as particularly important but it will be the beginning of something huge that drags us down for the following months culminating in an October/November economic crash.

I missed the Cashin reference to the date, but it is curious to see it specified out like that.

Does anyone really think the Iran/Isreal threat is that valid? I thought they needed each other in that symbiotic "need a bad guy" ala US/USSR mindset. It provides their leaders enormous ability to fleece their people without question.

Bernard Lewis and others like him need to stir the pot to stay relevant. The Iranians want nukes bcos they think of themselves as descendents of a great old Persian culture and if newbie Pakistan can have nukes they can too. Most Iranians are normal people like anyone else. Compared to the average Pakistani Iranians are much more relaxed and easygoing - Pakistan is many different ethnic groups cobbled together as a nation bcos they are all muslims. Most of the elites in Pakistan are descended from people who lived in modern day India and came to Pakistan during the partition of that chunk of land from the old India. Iranians have lesser baggage on that sort of thing.

In any case, all that sabre rattling is just to keep everyone else guessing. Same as Saddam did. Ironically if they got nukes they would actually bcome a lot more responsible. The moderates will be able to push the extremists and mullahs out by playing up the need for more modern worldviews that are required with such power.

As long as the pot is stirred and everyone is anxious we can sell a lot of weapons, get a lot of shakedown money and sign a lot of "security" agreements - that is if we are the military-industrial complexes of the US, UK, Russia, China and whoever else is in that MFing business. All this imam **** is nonsense - you saw the protestors on the street - yeah they were the "young Iranians" Lewis was referring to with this gem -

Quote:
"School textbooks tell young Iranians to be ready for a final global struggle against an evil enemy, named as the U.S., and to prepare themselves for the privileges of martyrdom."

If Iran ****s with Israel, which both sides are wont to do BTW, they would do it as they have all along - get Hezbollah to kidnap some Israeli soldier(s) and carry on with the "should he stay or should he go" drama which usually leads to negotiations, parlays and other tribal exchanges.

Why go the MAD option when they can just sit back and watch the Great Satan self-destruct under the debt generated by its opulent, decadent materialism?

This breaks the knees of one enemy - the enemy that gives military and financial nourishment to the Little Satan.

Give it more time and the Little Satan just may weaken a bit. I would expect Iran to outsource a nuclear test and build a respectable arsenal if they really were serious about this option. They have time on their side, no?

WebBots calling for something to happen on August 22 also.

Cashin and WebBots on the same page. HAA. That's good for a chuckle!

EDIT - I see 12007 has already bought up the WebBot call.

I agree. From what I read most Iranians are, despite their leadership (particularly their religuous leadership) fairly moderate and Pro-Western. The Shah ruled Iran for years in a moderate, Pro-Western fashion and that was recently enough that any Iranian over the age or 35 or so remembers those days.

The typical Pakistani has had much less exposure to Western culture and is more likely to have grown up in an isolated rural area, being schooled in a Madrassa, or with fundamentalist parents.

Just to set the record straight, Pakistan has a fairly modernized upper-class. They tend to live in the major cities which are on the eastern side of the country, nearer to the border with India. As you go rural there are not many schools for children or other modern influences - btw all those folks in the US who clamor about govt being evil and private citizens would magically do the right thing, should go to Pakistan, Sudan, Somalia, etc to see how govt can be a big boon by stepping in and educating and modernizing people, while private individuals have no such need and will invent and perpetuate tribal and feudal systems. Interestingly there is a lot of neo-tribalism and neo-feudalism being cooked up in the "heartland" of the US as we speak. In any case, most of rural Pakistan is very feudal and lacks public infrastructure and presence of the national govt (which is a national identity, people's consensus voice).

To make matters worse, the Western side, the one bordering Afghanistan is downright medeival, the tribal areas are basically self-governed, supposedly autonomous entities. The Pakistani govt, Pakistani intelligentsia, educational system, nothing has any sway here. As we are seeing these days, even the military has no sway here, they have to make deals with tribal leaders and toughmen to have access to the roads and passes.

The typical Pakistani you would meet in the US most likely comes from the eastern side, the side with the colleges, schools, cricket, movies and good times. The typical Pakistani you would meet in Pakistan ... well depends on where you are as briefly laid out above. In sum, Pakistan has a lot of problems, they wasted the last 50 years of Independence in a ****ing contest with India, and using the US military interests to further their own foolish pursuits in nuclear weaponry and missile technology, instead of schools, colleges, adult education and so on.

JOIN THE BATTLE
On August 22 at noon local time in cities across the country, the Tea Party movement will hold a simultaneous, mass demonstration in front of hundreds of local Congressional offices.

The St. Louis Tea Party will target Claire McCaskill and Russ Carnahan. We will target McCaskill’s St. Louis office on Delmar and both Carnahan offices: 8765 Manchester Rd. in Brentwood and 517 Bailey Rd. in Crystal City.

This is THE event of 2009, patriots. February 27, Tax Day, July 4 . . . think of those as recruiting drives. They were rallies. They did not move the needle.

August 22 moves the needle and moves mountains. IF YOU COMMIT to this event, you will change history. IF YOU STAY HOME, you will lose your country.

This is THE demonstration against un-Constitutional government, elitist Congress, unread legislation passed in the dead of night by vacuous Congressman. This is where the statists takeover of America ends.

March on August 22!

Commit to taking back your country!

The government screwed up TARP, screwed up stimulus, and bankrupted Cash for Clunkers in less than a week. This administration and its myrmidons in Congress are wicked idiots who will kill innocent people if healthcare passes. They will destroy American industry if Cap and Trade passes. WE ARE THE LAST LINE OF DEFENSE!!!!

Commit to bringing at least 2 people with you to Delmar, Manchester, or Bailey Rd.

Overflow events will include Lacy Clay’s offices and Todd Akin’s offices. (Todd Akin, btw, will be on our side BIG TIME on this one.) If going to Akin’s, please THANK TODD for his unwavering fiscal conservatism.

Carnahan and McCaskill will vote NO on Healthcare; McCaskill will vote NO on Cap and Trade. Or Carnahan and McCaskill will vote NO on their next term in office.

Carnahan and McCaskill have a choice between hearing and following the people or RETIRING FROM PUBLIC LIFE.

They are OUR SERVANTS!

Get your walking shoes on and your signs ready.

If Israel pulls any **** at the beginning of Ramadan, what that would do to enrage the Muslim population in every corner of the planet from Egypt to Indonesia.......... no, IT WILL NOT happen. Ballsy, you betcha, but terminally stupid... not at all-especially when they have Hamas and Al Qaeda going at each other. They're sitting back and watchin' that **** with popcorn.

Yeah, I agree. Israel will have more sense than to attack at the beginning of Ramadan. The Nazis had a habit of committing atrocites on Jewish holidays in the pre-war days and during the war. I'm sure the Israelis remember this and are wise enough to realize the ramifications if they were to do the same.
