My new client is a major multibillion-dollar entity with unrivaled depth and breadth of technology, always providing exciting new challenges for its employees. Within their Ceramics and Metallurgy Technology (CMT) organization they are at the forefront of developing new and modified materials and processing techniques for exciting applications in the healthcare, water, aviation, energy and renewable power spaces. The materials and processes developed will go into some of the world's most successful and visible product offerings, impacting the world and people’s lives.

The High Temperature Alloys & Processing Lab within CMT leads research in high temperature metallic systems, airfoil alloys, magnetic materials, alloy processing including solidification, repair and joining development in support of primarily Aviation and Energy divisions.

Senior Investment Casting Metallurgist (New York):

As a Casting Metallurgist, you will be responsible for research and development of new casting processes and work to define specifications for the production of cast components. You will design and perform experiments to develop processes for the manufacturing of specialty metallic material components, including nickel, titanium and refractory alloys. You will work on alloy development and processing teams, and collaborate with global partners.

Essential Responsibilities

You will:

• Lead research working independently and in cross-functional teams to develop and execute short-term and long-term strategy in casting process research.
• Coordinate activities of support teams to prepare wax patterns, ceramic shell molds and casting specimens.
• Design and specify casting process equipment.
• Conduct microstructural analysis, including metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy.
• Document results, write process specifications and develop database for sample and result tracking.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Masters degree in Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science with at least 10 years post-degree work experience with casting processes.
• Knowledge of or hands-on experience with pattern making, ceramic shell mold manufacturing and architectures.
• Strong knowledge of casting processes, solidification science and casting defect formation mechanisms.
• Experience with metallographic preparation techniques, quantitative microscopy, characterization techniques including scanning electron microscopy.
• Proficient in computer skills, spreadsheet, plotting and presentation software.
• Demonstrated research ability, strong project execution skills and customer focus.
• Unrestricted work authorization in the U.S. is required.
• Doctorate in Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science.
• Finite element modeling experience, experience with casting software including Procast.
• Domain knowledge of gas turbines and hot gas path component design.
• Established publication and/or patent record in your field.
• Innovative nature and willingness to pursue new technical areas.
• Good teaming skills and ability to work with wide range of technical teams and projects.
• Demonstrated organizational ability.
• Exceptional passion for science and technology.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
