For Sales, Marketing and BizDev Execs with Logistics/Supply Chain Experience:
My new client has retained me to look for a Director of Business Development to join their small but growing team. This person will be responsible for the development and close of new business leads for our next generation asset tracking devices. They are committed to developing high quality and cutting edge wireless systems. The position will be located near San Jose, CA and will require 50% travel.
Summary of Duties/Responsibilities: Achieve revenue and design win targets to meet or exceed budget for companys next generation asset tracking/logistics device. Be an integral part of the leadership team of company to drive forward a key new business initiative. Build and maintain relationship with customer management utilizing existing network as well as new lead generation techniques. Ensure effective negotiation of contracts, pricing, terms and conditions, as delegated by management. Monitor competitive pricing and positioning on an ongoing basis, assisting management with definition of future-generation specifications through customer feedback. Establish customer commitment to company, and increase the visibility of company in the asset tracking category, through customer site visits and appropriate representation at industry events.
Specialized Skills: Five years of successful business development experience or equivalent with a strong track record of sales and growth, meeting or exceeding targets. Experience in a privately-held, venture-backed company and/or the sales process for technical products and solutions. Experience and contacts within cellular-based M2M or MRM and applications and/or package-tracking applications highly desirable. Intimate knowledge of the package shipping & tracking business, its technological needs as well as related business contacts spanning that industry is key. Must have strong selling and interpersonal skills, effective verbal communication skills and project management skills. Should also be skilled in analysis and how to effectively handle objections.
Education & Experience: Bachelor degree required. MBA, or equivalent work experience, desirable.
For this position, experience inside a shipping company or specifically with logistics and supply-chain is required. Not really looking for a "sensors guy", but someone who knows the shipping industry and has strong business development and sales experience to evangelize a remarkable new sensor product for tracking packages.
Someone who has an interest in technology would definitely be a plus, as well as having an extensive rolodex of people in the supply and shipping industry.
