Attention: Great Opportunities in GaN LEDs!
My new client is a venture-backed, development-stage company focused on development and commercialization of highly energy efficient and very low cost nanowire light-emitting diodes (nLED) based on its proprietary heterostructured semiconductor nanowire epitaxial growth and process technologies. Founded five years ago, they employ novel, cutting-edge semiconductor nanotechnology to dramatically lower production cost at the die level of Ultra-High-Brightness (UHB) light emitting diodes (LEDs). A novel type of LED-chip each with millions of nanowire LEDs is expected to offer all the advantages of state-of-the-art conventional planar UHB-LEDs, including high lighting efficiency with very low energy consumption, long lifetime and good functionality, but at radically lower manufacturing costs. These positions are located in Silicon Valley although, for any position, client will consider hiring in Denmark (if candidate strongly desires relocation to Europe). #1 LED senior device engineer/ process engineer The successful candidate will lead the design of GaN LEDs associated with production of devices at the Sunnyvale, CA facility. The job responsibilities include design development and execution of LED processing steps and masking steps need to fully construct the on-wafer light emitters. The successful candidate will possess an expert knowledge of InGaN optical device physics, a deep toolbox of processing skills from which to craft new structures, and an ability to connect the theoretical physical parameters to the measured characterization data. Job Knowledge III-N device fabrication experience; photolithography, metallization, etching, etc. Experience with optical and electrical characterization of LEDs. Experience in relevant materials characterization techniques of LED device structures Responsibilities: Conceive, drive, and implement device designs and processing steps. Mentoring, coaching, and training of process technicians. Must have a "whatever it takes" attitude to get the job done (This may mean working long hours, weekends, nights, etc.) Required Qualifications MS/PhD Degree (Physics, Electrical or allied field) Minimum five years experience designing GaN and processing LEDs Strong knowledge of device physics and LED simulation. Strong knowledge of optics and light extraction issues. Knowledge of thermal analysis and modeling. Knowledge and practical use of Experimental Design. #2 LED senior packaging engineer/ process engineer The successful candidate will lead the development of the backend processing for formation, singulation, package attachment and encapsulation technologies at the Sunnyvale, California facility. Moreover the successful candidate will have an expert level of knowledge of LED thermal design constraints, demonstrated expertise in thermal modeling for high power die design, a skill set of thermal measurement techniques and an expert knowledge of optical techniques to enhance external quantum efficiency of LEDs. Responsibilities: Conceive, drive, and implement die- to- packaging designs and encapsulation processes. Mentoring, coaching, and training of process technicians. Must have a "whatever it takes" attitude to get the job done (This may mean working long hours, weekends, nights, etc.) Required Qualifications MS/PhD Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Optical Engineering, Materials Science) Minimum five years experience designing packages for optoelectronic devices. Strong knowledge of 3D CAD Design. Strong knowledge of optics and polymer optical materials. Knowledge of thermal analysis and modeling. Knowledge and practical use of Experimental Design. Knowledge of phosphor materials #3 Senior Product Engineer The Senior Product Engineer will be responsible for product line support, supply chain and documentation support associated with production of LED devices at the Sunnyvale, CA facility. Responsibilities: Develop deliverable prototypes and integrate into production to meet all technical, schedule, and financial requirements. Data analysis of device performance with feedback to wafer processing. Lead troubleshooting of processes and procedures Establish wafer fabrication travelers and documentation for new product platforms and changes to work instructions or processes Lead product, process, and material qualification efforts Required Qualifications BS/MS degree in EE, ME, or equivalent Work experience of at least 5 years in the LED production is required Knowledge of manufacturing set-up, validation, and monitoring. Direct knowledge of IVL, CCT, radiometric and photometric measurements Extensive knowledge of wafer fabrication processing Six Sigma and DOE discipline and statistical experience Excellent communication, networking and presentation skills Proficient with statistical software (e.g. JMP, Minitab, etc.) and the MS Office Suite Record designs, software, results and test documents according to the Companys quality procedures. Assist in testing and maintaining product (equipment) conformity to the product specification and regulatory standards. Carry out research and network with the wider technical community to ensure is at the leading edge of relevant technology. Required qualifications MS or PhD degree in relevant engineering or science discipline Demonstrated project management experience Significant experience of product development in the semiconductor or related industry. Strong epitaxial experience, GaN experience. Excellent understanding of physics of III-N epitaxy process. Experience in materials characterization techniques and managing the selection and cost effective use of characterization tools. Data analysis skills (statistical analysis, model building, DOE) and experience with JMP. 6-Sigma structured problem solving approach (FMEA, FTA, root cause determination). Excellent written and oral communication, especially presentation skills and technical report writing. Ability and willingness to travel; less than 10% internationally. IF you feel that you are a well-qualified match for one or more of these positions, please send me a resume with a cover letter addressing why you feel that you are a good fit. Resumes, references and referrals are always welcomed. Feel free to share this information with anyone you like.
