I was watching one of those Discovery channel shows, involving some named hypnotist that I don't remember now - and they did a segment on mass hypnosis.

He put an ad in the paper in NYC for a free movie screening at a theater. People showed up, maybe 40-50 and he proceeded to tell them that they were going to watch a comedy, enjoy the show, yadda yadda, and then bam he hypnotizes them with giant letters on the screen "SLEEP". Most of the crowd goes under, with a few stragglers looking around confused at everybody else.

They go on to explain that introverts are much less susceptible to hypnosis something like 15% of people can't be hypnotized. He then went on to tell the silly extroverts that when they wake up, they will laugh, and believe that they have just finished watching the movie, and it is the funniest movie they have ever seen. 5 minutes have elapsed since they walked into the theater. And sure enough, when he claps his hands they wake up laughing mightily with applause, and file out to the lobby to talk about how funny the movie was.

Some of the introverts that didn't get hypnotized try to tell them that they didn't see any movie, that they were hypnotized the whole time and duped. Even though when pressed they can't name any details about the movie like who the actors were or what it was about. They only listen when the hypnotist tells them that they were hypnotized, and then respond with horror.

I had this place in mind when watching the segment. I tried to find a clip of it on youtube, but couldn't find it.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the 15% that can't be hypnotized.

Same here. They had a hypnotist at my Grad night party in high school, I was one of like 3 people just sitting on stage going, "WTF?" while everyone else was hypnotized to believe they were on a roller coaster.

Same here. Maybe we all flock to TF because we can see through people trying to trick us. (I'm not an introvert, by the way)

Another intj here.

Weird, a couple years back on more of a doomer-type forum, pretty much everybody tested intj there too.

Is it just the intj's are nearly the only ones with a predisposition to ferret out all the systemic problems?

My reaction to reading the description of intj's.... I want to clear out a large island... you know, not too large, like australia and move all the intj's from all over the world to start an entiely intj country. It would rock.

Isn't that kind of what they did in Brave New World, send the freethinkers to Cyprus or something?

I have to say that I have changed a lot since reading everything on TF. There is learning material here that I never had available to me before and a lot of it changed me quite a bit. More or less rounding out things I had feelings about but never could quantify or express any coherent argument for.

I wouldn't be surprised if that moved me a little more towards an INTJ than I was in the past.

A couple of years down the line and I'm still ENFJ.

Out of step here, perhaps. But probably why I had staffs of folks who would walk through fire if I asked them to.

Another (strong) INTJ here.

I never really thought of myself as judgemental, but the introvert, intuitive and thinking elements definitely describe me. I'm a little disturbed that I scored so highly on the judgemental part. I guess some self reflection is in order...

Tasha - before you beat yourself up, go read the definitions of the terminology. 'Judgemental' has a precise and specific meaning. It doesn't mean you are a 'judgemental person' as used in common parlance. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Brigg....

I've been on other forums where this same poll was taken and the results were similiar - the NTs (of various subtypes) are the vast majority of forum users.

They were all also news forums, though - I wonder if a larger proportion of say, SFs, would be found on scrapbooking or cooking forums? It might be different on a forum where, due to topic, the inclination/need to divine the future from bits of news wasn't the main focus.

Thanks, ntb. I don't feel so bad now. I had a feeling there was more to it, and I was just too lazy to look further. Shame on me!

Thought I was an ISFP from the small 4 testy sites around until I took the test you put up. I guess I'm not. I am a INFJ 67 50 62 11 A 'counselor' is what it means when I looked up the types. I used to want to be a youth counselor and help abused kids when I grew up but just never got around to it. How funny is that?

http://www.keirsey.com/4temps/counselor.....
A couple snippets: Counselors are scarce, little more than three percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.

Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.

So true, so true along with being a curse sometimes...... smiley
